  16.50 Step Into Luxury With Purple Granite Handicap Chase This is a tricky opener but ZACONY REBEL appreciated the first-time blinkers when scoring at this course last month. He scored by a comfortable four lengths despite hanging left on the run-in, suggesting he’s a horse that is ahead of the assessor.

  14.27 D & H Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase BALLINTUBBER BOY is unbeaten in two starts at this course, and although his jumping has let him down of late, it’s possible that he will be granted a soft lead.

  13.35 Juddmonte EBF Restricted Novice Stakes A competitive opener with my first vote going to SPIRIT OF THE WOOD. He ran a race full of promise when third at Musselburgh on debut and should be well suited to the step up to a mile.

  15.05 Daily Bet Boosts At BetVictor Nursery DARK ALLEY is going from strength-to-strength and duly landed the odds when a ready winner at Bath last month. That came after a promising second at Windsor, so despite this being tougher, Warren Greatrex’s charge must be classed as a key player in the opener.

  14.20 Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai Apprentice Handicap AMATHUS has a good record at this venue and came from off the pace to score over track and trip three weeks ago. He should have won even easier with a clear run, so his effort can be upgraded.

  14.15 PricedUp Nursery VALOR SPIRIT has displayed race-by-race progress and did very well to finish as close as he did when second at Pontefract a fortnight ago. It was evident that he was given far too much to do, but the way he stayed on strongly to only be beaten a couple of lengths by Chairmanfourtimes suggests he’s a horse about to strike.
