14.30 Hereford Easter Monday Family Raceday Handicap Chase CHIEF BLACK ROBE should be all-the-better from his run over hurdles at Taunton last month and has a good chance back over the bigger obstacles.

Saturday Weekend Preview: Take a chance in the Mile at Donny

This weekend welcomes the start of the British Flat season at Doncaster and I have provided my thoughts on the main races throughout the card.   Cammidge Trophy Stakes (13.50pm) Spycatcher bids for back-to-back wins in the race having defeated Iberian twelve months ago, but there’s strong competition, and the one that could run well is MY MATE ALFIE.

14.15 Join The Johnson White Racing Syndicate Novices’ Hurdle Being back in calmer waters can surely see FALLS OF ACHARN register a second win for Paul Nicholls. He wasn’t disgraced when fourth in a Grade 2 event last time out and can see off Sinchi Roca, who ran poorly at Fontwell when last seen.

    Kempton Place 6 Preview | 23rd March

14.00 Virgin Bet Maiden Hurdle I’ll take a chance on LOUSTIC DU CHATEL, who has shaped well on both starts in this sphere and might be able to open his account. He was a good winner on debut at Ascot in a bumper and retains potential, so he looks set to make a major impact under Tom Bellamy.

    Carlisle Place 6 Preview | 22nd March

13.45 Pauline Phizacklea Memorial Novices’ Hurdle ROCKING MAN has a good chance to get back to winning ways. The team are continuing to fly in serious form and this youngster was running well in a Grade 2 last time out before something seemed amiss two out.

    Newbury Place 6 Preview | 21st March

13.15 Castle Windows Newbury Anniversary Novices’ Hurdle The opener presents KOCKTAIL BLEU with a fine opportunity to score for the first time since his hurdles debut. Last seen finishing runner-up in a Grade 2 event at Kempton, the six-year-old will appreciate the drop in grade and can therefore see off some promising types.

    Newbury Place 6 Preview | 20th March

14.00 BetVictor Novices’ Hurdle LE FRIMEUR appears to be a promising prospect based on his hurdles debut success at Chepstow, where he had plenty up his sleeve and could be anything. This is a stiffer task but Harry Derham’s youngster has the potential to rank higher and is fancied to remain unbeaten.

14.20 Lycetts Insurance Mares’ Maiden Hurdle OCTOBER HILL has found life tough of late on the course but this is a weak event and I’ll be surprised if she’s not capable of getting heavily involved.

    Hereford Place 6 Preview | 18th March

14.00 Charity Partner We Are Farming Minds Handicap Chase Quite a competitive-looking opener but the vote goes to last-time-out winner KINGSCORMAC could be the answer. He’s off a career-high mark but was really impressive at Exeter when last seen and there could be more to come.

    Wetherby Place 6 Preview | 17th March

14.02 Entertain In Style At Wetherby Racecourse Mares’ ‘National Hunt’ Maiden Hurdle Dan Skelton’s SALLYVILLE LADY has shown a fair level of form on all three bunker starts and should be winning soon.

Ffos Las Place 6 Preview | 16th March

14.30 Plan A Conditional Jockeys’ Mares’ Handicap Hurdle QUEEN OF STEEL won this race twelve months ago very easily and might be able to repeat the dose based on recent efforts. She came close to making it two wins on the bounce when runner-up at Southwell last month and is fancied to get the better of Rest Of The Best, who is the obvious danger in the opener.
