Perth Place 6 Preview | 24th April
13.55 Nairns Oatcakes Mares’ ‘National Hunt’ Novices’ Hurdle
C&D winner MONGIBELLO finished a good second at Limerick last month, and the form of her runner-up effort behind Aurora Vega at Fairyhouse in January has worked out well, as the winner was last seen winning at the highest level. JJ Slevin’s mount should be hard to beat in the opener.
Tips: MONGIBELLO
14.25 Assured Partners Handicap Hurdle (Div 1)
KAPAL LAYAR powered to succeed at Chepstow when last seen and should have more to come, particularly in the handicapping scenario, so he’d expected to go well. KOUKEO has only been raised 4lb for winning at Exeter and is the other one to consider in this tight event.
Tips: KAPAL LAYAR & KOUKEO
14.55 Assured Partners Handicap Hurdle (Div 2)
Nicky Richards’ BARATABLET should prove hard to keep out of the frame. Runner-up on his first two starts, the five-year-old opened his account in good style at Hexham and shaped quite nicely when third in a hotter race on handicap debut last month. Back down in trip and grade, he’s expected to be bang in contention.
Tips: BARATABLET
15.25 Royal Scots Dragoon Guards Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Chase
UPTOWN HARRY is a C&D winner off a much higher mark and ran with credit in a much stronger race last time out. Off a career-low mark, the 11-year-old should be thereabouts. I’ll also play EVERYDAY CHAMPAGNE, who always runs well at this venue and has been given a good chance by the assessor.
Tips: UPTOWN HARRY & EVERYDAY CHAMPAGNE
15.59 Royal Caledonian Hunt Handicap Hurdle
HIDDEN HISTORY was last seen beating Wellington Arch, who subsequently won at the Aintree Festival to boost the form. Dan Skelton has saved him for this race since and he looks ahead of the assessor off his 7lb higher figure, so he’s strongly fancied to get the job done.
Tips: HIDDEN HISTORY
16.33 Phil Nelson River Tay Handicap Chase
TOMMY’S OSCAR is 3lb below his last winning mark and remains unexposed over this longer distance, so if he can bring his best form to the table, I see no reason why he cannot make a bold bid. Recent Newbury runner-up HELTENHAM can also go onto the list.
Tips: TOMMY’S OSCAR & HELTENHAM
