13.10 British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes

BERKSHIRE ROYAL could be the answer to the opener. He wasn’t able to lay a glove on the odds-on favourite on his debut at Lingfield but shaped with promise. With more to come, Andrew Balding’s charge can make an impact.

13.45 Betfred Champagne Stakes (Group 2)

The Charlie Appleby-trained DESERT CASTLE can prove tough to beat. I loved the way he justified cramped odds on debut at Newmarket and left the impression that he’s definitely worth the step up in class. I really fancy his chances with Billy Loughnane retained to ride.

14.20 Betfred Portland (Heritage Handicap)

I’m all over the claims of APOLLO ONE. He finished a nose-second in this race two years ago off a mark of 102. He’s now 12lb lower in the handicap off 90 and returned to form with a good fourth at York last time out. I will be majorly deflated if this well-handicapped eight-year-old can’t go close to gaining an overdue success.

14.55 Betfred Park Stakes (Group 2)

MORE THUNDER can get the better of Never So Brave. He hasn’t been at his best on his last two starts but has emerged with credit. Surely a repeat of either his second in the Lockinge or second in the Queen Anne would give him outstanding claims. He’s proven himself at the highest level and looks ready to register a first win since August last year.

15.35 Betfred St Leger Stakes (Group 1)

The main event, the St Leger, can go the way of PIERRE BONNARD. He is closely matched with Christmas Day and finished in front of him when second in the Great Voltigeur last time out. His staying on third in the Irish Derby offers hope that this extra yardage will bring about improvement. This Group 1 winner at two looks primed to produce a big effort

16.15 Pertemps Network Handicap (Str)

A chance is taken on CASH. He’s been winless for a long time but has only been seen once since finishing second in this race last year which came off a 2lb higher mark. His effort last time out ought to have blown away a few cobwebs, so with Silvestre De Sousa booked to ride, the seven-year-old is no back number.
