Musselburgh Place 6 betting preview | 24th August

13.50 – British Stallion Studs EBF Restricted Maiden Stakes (GBB Race) – 7f

SEA IN THE DARK shaped with a lot of promise when fifth of 11 on debut and would have at least made the frame with a clear passage as she was forced to wait for a gap when travelling better than most. With lots more to come and that experience under her belt, she’s a major player. ACT OF WILL was unsuited to the drop in trip last time but retains potential and has to be considered a threat in this race.

Selections: SEA IN THE DARK, ACT OF WILL

14.20 – Ray Hawthorne Nursery – 5f

HOW EXCITING could be the answer to this race. Ann Duffield’s filly is improving with each start and having shaped well when seventh at Redcar on her penultimate outing, she lost little in defeat when second to an odds-on favourite when last spotted. This is a really weak contest, so another positive ride should see her come out on top here.

Selections: HOW EXCITING, LITTLE BETTY

14.50 – Zans Platinum Jubilee Handicap – 5f

ABEL HANDY clearly isn’t the force he was when he defied a mark of 84 (32Ib higher than today) when successful over track and trip more than three years ago but he hasn’t had many starts in class six events and the first-time visor should see him make an impact. PRIMO is proving really consistent this year and has made the frame the last two times. The three-year-old, who’s actually open to further improvement, should be thereabouts.

Selections: ABEL HANDY, PRIMO

15.20 – Robert Roache Portobello Cup Handicap – 2m2f

This is really wide-open but it’s hard to dismiss the claims of MANJAAM, who fared the best of those up with the pace when second at Carlisle last-time-out and gets into this race off only a pound higher mark. In fact, the nine-year-old is now well below his last winning mark and is drawn very well in stall 1 here. With most of these arriving here on the back of lacklustre efforts, this is an excellent opportunity for Stella Barclays charge to make the frame.

Selections: MANJAAM

15.50 – Isobel Townsend Handicap – 7f

The Jim Goldie-trained JESSIE ALLAN has course-and-distance winning form and that victory was off a two-pounds higher mark last year. She’s finished last on her last two starts but will find this race easier and should be involved back over this trip. ZUMAATY ran his best race of the season when runner-up last time and should go close here with a repeat showing off a mark that’s well within his compass.

Selections: JESSIE ALLAN, ZUMAATY

16.25 – Racing TV Profits Returned To Racing Handicap – 1m

The most persuasive option for place purposes, at the very least, has to be CARACRISTI, who has been in very good form of late and following a decisive victory on her penultimate start, she matched that form when second last-time-out at Newcastle to a horse who was completing a double. Phil Kirby’s participant remains well-treated on some of last year’s form and should again be competitive returned to the turf here.

Selections: CARACRISTI
