Newbury Betting Preview
12.10 – Ladbrokes Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle (Listed) (GBB Race) – 2m
ELLE EST BELLE was behind Nina The Terrier on hurdles debut over C&D but she travelled powerfully throughout and would have learnt a lot. She remains the type to improve markedly in this sphere given her high-class bumper form so, with more to offer, she’s fancied to reverse the form and strike in the opener. Paul Nicholls’ RAINYDAY WOMAN was also useful in bumpers last term and was also turned over on hurdles debut but she’ll have needed the outing and should give this a good go from the front under Harry Cobden.
Selections: ELLE EST BELLE, RAINYDAY WOMAN
12.40 – Ladbrokes John Francome Novices’ Chase (Grade 2) (GBB Race) – 2m7f
AHOY SENOR was running well on chase debut until unseating late on and, with that run ought to have blown away the cobwebs, Lucinda Russell’s Grade 1-winning hurdler can get off the mark here. FLASH COLLONGES has won three of his five starts and impressed at Kelso when last spotted. He has the scope to be an even better chase so is feared most for trainer Paul Nicholls.
Selections: AHOY SENOR, FLASH COLLONGES
13.15 – Sir Peter O’Sullevan Memorial Handicap Chase (GBB Race) – 2m6f
This looks a difficult puzzle to solve but GRAND SANCY is a smart horse on his day, who’s bagged Grade Two’s and Listed events in his career thus far for Paul Nicholls. He’s generally kept stronger company than this over fences and wasn’t disgraced on his return at Chepstow last-time-out. He’s on a really good mark of 139 and should go well, while top-weight and former Coral Cup winner DAME DE COMPAGNIE alongside Greatwood Gold Cup second KILLER CLOWN are others to merit strong consideration in this wide-open handicap.
Selections: GRAND SANCY, DAME DE COMPAGNIE, KILLER CLOWN
13.50 – Get Your Ladbrokes 1 Free Bet Today Handicap Hurdle (GBB Race) – 2m4f
CH’TIBELLO hasn’t been out since finishing sixth at Cheltenham in a Grade Two at Cheltenham six months ago but he’s the class act in the field and this former County Hurdle winner who’s taken on the best for a few years now has an each-way squeak off top-weight in this easier assignment. Welsh Champion Hurdle winner GLORY AND FORTUNE ran well to finish sixth in the Greatwood last time and has each-way possibilities.
Selections: CH’TIBELLO, GLORY AND FORTUNE
14.25 – Ladbrokes Committed To Safer Gambling Intermediate Hurdle (Listed Limited Handicap) (GBB Race) – 2m
SOARING GLORY returned an impressive winner of the Betfair Hurdle over C&D last season and won an Ascot listed handicap really nicely on reappearance. He has more to come and should be winning this, while GOWEL ROAD is a two-time C&D winner and could be tough to beat if allowed a soft lead.
Selections: SOARING GLORY, GOWEL ROAD
15.00 – Ladbrokes Trophy Chase (Grade 3 Handicap) (GBB Race) – 3m1f
The feature race of the day, the Ladbrokes Trophy, where FIDDLERONTHEROOF is fancied to make a serious impact for his bang in-form team. He is really consistent, is on a good mark and is a major each-way player. KITTY’S LIGHT is also consistent and ran a blinder to finish second in the Charlie Hall, which should have put him spot on for this event. He is open to further improvement being only a five-year/old and makes plenty of each-way appeal for the Christian Williams team.
Selections: FIDDLERONTHEROOF, KITTY’S LIGHT
