Best forwards in European football – Top 10

Despite all the disruption the current season has encountered, it has still been a bumper year for football with a host of strikers recording personal bests. We have seen some talented, young forwards emerge whilst others have solidified their presence among the best in the world. But who is truly the cream of the crop? Here is our list of the 10 best forwards in European football today.

Best forwards in European football

10. Romelu Lukaku (Inter Milan)

What a difference a change of scenery has made for Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian had stagnated at Old Trafford but he has looked a different striker since moving to the San Siro back in August. The slower nature of the Italian game has suited Lukaku’s style particularly well and he has scored 17 goals in 25 games, making him one of the deadliest scorers in Serie A this season.

9. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Arsenal)

Aubameyang has been one of the most consistent goal scorers in European footballers in recent memory and this season has proven no different. The Gabonese striker has scored 17 goals for Arsenal, bailing The Gunners out of more than one predicament this season with his strong form. With his contract expiring in the next 12 months, Aubameyang could be a hot commodity in the transfer window ahead.

8. Jamie Vardy (Leicester City)

It has been a magnificent year for Jamie Vardy who has been one of the main reasons for Leicester finding themselves sitting comfortably in a Champions League spot. Vardy currently leads the Premier League scoring charts with 19 goals and could finally be set to win the Golden Boot award that has eluded him in previously campaigns. The man who continues to defy all odds remains one of the deadliest and best forwards in European football.

7. Kylian Mbappe (PSG)

Although the Ligue 1 season has been ended prematurely, Mbappe has solidified himself as the star of a deadly PSG attack. Having managed to score 18 goals in 20 games, the Frenchman won the Ligue 1 Top Scorer award for the second year in a row and has outshone much more established stars such as Neymar and Edison Cavani. He still looks set to become the best forward in the world in years to come.

6. Lionel Messi (Barcelona)

Having been the heart of the Barcelona attack for over a decade, there is not much that hasn’t already been said about Lionel Messi. It has been another record-breaking year for the Argentine who picked up his sixth Ballon D’Or in December as well as breaking the record for the most hat tricks in La Liga with 35, after a 5-2 win against Real Mallorca.

5. Cristiano Ronaldo (Juventus)

Ronaldo has been adding more trophies to an already overflowing cabinet since moving to Serie A and it could be another excellent year for the Portuguese superstar. He has scored 21 goals in 21 games this season and equalled the Serie A record for most goals scored in successive games having netted in his 11th straight match against SPAL just before the league was stopped in February.

4. Jadon Sancho (Borussia Dortmund)

Sancho’s rise to fame has been different to most English forwards but his choice to stay in the Bundesliga has been rich with rewards. The winger has notched up 17 goals and 17 assists this season for Dortmund making him one of the deadliest attackers in world football. Having only just turned 20, Sancho could set to be England’s next big superstar for years to come.

3. Timo Werner (RB Leipzig)

Werner has been looking for a season to truly break out amongst the ranks and this has certainly been his year. The German international has scored 25 goals in the Bundesliga this season making him one of the best forwards in European football. This hot form has put him on the verge of a move to Chelsea so expect to see Werner terrorizing Premier League defences soon.

2. Ciro Immobile (Lazio)

Having struggled away from Italy, Immobile has found himself very much at home back in Serie A with Lazio. With a point to prove, Immobile has found himself in the form of his career scoring 27 goals in 26 appearances – more than a goal a game. This form has been a pivotal reason for Lazio challenging Juventus for the Serie A title and could help the Biancocelesti lift the trophy for the first time since 2000.

1. Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich)

Lewandowski has been perhaps the most consistently deadly force in world football for the last few years and this season is set to be the best yet for the Polish international. He has so far scored 30 goals in 28 games making this the third 30-goal in five years since moving to Bayern. It is safe to say that no one is in better form than Lewandowski right now and that he is truly the best forward in Europe today.
