York Betting Preview

13.45 – John Smith’s Racing Handicap – 7f

A tough handicap but David O’Meara could hold the key to this race. BLUE FOR YOU is the preferred choice of Danny Tudhope and gets the first vote. He wasn’t far behind Via Serendipity last month and a similar effort here might see him reverse the form. YOUNG FIRE has a good record here and is off an unchanged mark as when fourth last weekend. He’s the second choice with Jason Hart in the saddle.

Selections: BLUE FOR YOU, YOUNG FIRE

14.20 – John Smith’s Silver Cup Stakes (Group 3) – 1m5f

JOHN LEEPER isn’t the most consistent but he’s talented and while he’s worse off at the weights with WITHOUT A FIGHT here, he shouldn’t be dismissed. The latter bagged a second C&D four weeks ago when beating the former and should go well again, while Yorkshire Cup runner-up THUNDEROUS has run well on his last three starts this year and has the ability to win this if granted a soft lead.

Selections: JOHN LEEPER, THUNDEROUS, WITHOUT A FIGHT

14.55 – John Smith’s Stayers’ Handicap – 2m

Richard Spencer’s DANNI CALIFORNIA is really consistent and bolted up in good style on her penultimate start when stepped up in trip. She should have won last time when set with too much to do and eventually beaten a neck but back over this longer trip, she has to be considered. WITHAM RIVER ran well when third over this trip last month and could make an impact under Harry Davies.

Selections: DANNI CALIFORNIA, WITHAM RIVER

15.30 – John Smith’s Nursery – 6f

SANKS A MILLION beat Rock Opera with a bit to spare when getting off the mark at the third time of asking at Chester and, while she’s in receipt of less weight on this occasion, she’s open to more improvement. With an attacking ride likely to be in order again here, it’s difficult to see her not being in the frame with Derby-winning jockey Richard Kingscote retained to ride.

Selections: SANKS A MILLION

16.05 – John Smith’s Cup Handicap – 1m2f

An extremely competitive John Smith’s Cup but INTELLOGENT is a former Group 1 winner in France and posted three solid efforts in defeat for current connections. He ran a great race when a close-up second in the Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot when carrying a monster weight and, off the same mark here, this could be the time he gets his head in front in the UK. FIRST View has form figures of 1121 in this country and won easily at Leicester last time on turf debut. He’s considered from bottom-weight, while ANMAAT hasn’t been seen for nine months but was highly progressive last year and could go close if fit enough on his return.

Selections: INTELLOGENT, FIRST VIEW, ANMAAT

16.40 – John Smith’s City Walls Stakes (Listed) – 5f

CATURRA was a Listed/Group 2 winner as a juvenile and can easily be excused for his last two efforts, where he’s met loads of traffic problems but ran well in each of those to not be beaten far. With a clear run this time, he’s sure to be thereabouts. ROYAL ACLAIM steps up massively in grade but she’s looked pretty special the last two times and even beat Perfect Power on debut. She could outclass these if she takes the step up in grade without any issues.

Selections: CATURRA, ROYAL ACLAIM
