Steven Dowler is taking on today’s Boosted Place 6 pool at York. Check out his preview below.

York Betting Preview

14.05 – William Hill Best Odds Guaranteed Handicap – 1m3f

SOUTHERN VOYAGE couldn’t land a blow in the Old Newton Cup last time but he’s won three of his six starts and a mark of 89 shouldn’t prove to be the ceiling of his ability as he beat a horse rated 93 on his penultimate start. He could get involved if fit enough, while STRAWMAN opened his account for this season when getting up late at Redcar last month and did well to finish where he did at Carlisle last time. He’s another to consider.

Selections: SOUTHERN VOYAGE, STRAWMAN

14.40 – William Hill Summer Stakes (Fillies’ And Mares’ Group 3) – 6f

An excellent-looking Group Three. HALA HALA ATHMANI is an interesting candidate, who’s a half-sister to Hello Youmzain and ran a really tidy race to finish seventh in the Commonwealth Cup on just her third start when last spotted. She’s bound to strip much fitter and should go very close back down in grade against her own sex. FLOTUS has benefitted from being ridden prominently of late and she finished second for the second time at the highest level last time. A repeat here should be enough to see her go one better. UMM KULTHUM beat the favourite on her return at Newmarket though and has to go onto the shortlist.

Selections: HALA HALA ATHMANI, FLOTUS, UMM KULTHUM

15.15 – William Hill Play Responsibly Irish EBF Fillies’ Novice Stakes (GBB Race) – 5f

YAHSAT has shown loads of speed in all four starts to date and was beaten just a neck over C&D in the Marygate Stakes by Pillow Talk in May. She’s the one to beat in this race. THE PLATINUM QUEEN wasn’t far behind the former at Royal Ascot last time and appears to be the biggest threat back down in class with more room for improvement than Karl Burke’s filly.

Selections: YAHSAT, THE PLATINUM QUEEN

15.50 – William Hill Pick Your Places Handicap – 1m2f

Roger Varian’s ASAASSI twice reached the frame before putting that experience to good use when winning easily on his return at Salisbury. An opening mark of 86 looks lenient judged on his close-up third on his penultimate start and Cameron Noble has been booked to ride, who claims three pounds. He’s the one to beat with improvement forthcoming here.

Selections: ASAASSI

16.25 – Azets Handicap – 7f

DOCUMENTING ran a lot better than his finishing position suggested when ninth in the Buckingham Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot last month and this former C&D winner should go well with a seven-pound claimer booked to ride. SALEYMM was runner-up in the Lincoln on his return and has run well in defeat in three subsequent starts. This is a bit easier than last time, so he’s worth another chance to get his head in front this season off this mark.

Selections: DOCUMENTING, SALEYMM

17.00 – Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Handicap – 5f

PEGGY SIOUX impressed when beating a 90-rated horse easily on debut at Hamilton last year and took a step forward from her first two starts this year when third in the Palace of Holyroodhouse Stakes at Royal Ascot three weeks ago. She’s dropped in grade off only a 3Ib higher mark here, so she’s a serious player. PROSPECT has been consistent in defeat of late and should be thereabouts.

Selections: PEGGY SIOUX, PROSPECT
