Who will win the 2021 Super Bowl?

This Sunday the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will meet in Super Bowl 2021 in Tampa, a week after a very unusual Pro Bowl, making the Buccaneers the first team to ever appear in a Super Bowl played at ‘home’.  This is the first Super Bowl between the starting quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes for the Chiefs and Tom Brady for the Buccaneers. Not only did they win the most recent appearances, but 2021 also marks the first Super Bowl between starting quarterbacks who have each won at least one Associated Press Most Valuable Player Award and one Super Bowl Most Valuable Player Award.

There are of course many differences between these two players, starting with age. Brady is 43 and Mahomes is 25 years old, the largest age difference between opposing starting quarterbacks in Super Bowl history. Brady brings with him years of experience and is known as the GOAT who is likely in his final few seasons, whereas Mahomes is just starting his journey. This is one of many reasons why fans are hoping this game could become one of the best Super Bowls of all time.

Without a doubt, Mahomes will become the next Tom Brady with years and years of continued success. Looking at the two, they have the highest and third-highest winning percentages among starting quarterbacks since 1950 – Mahomes 44-9, .830, and Brady 263-80, .767.

The last time the teams met was week 12 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa and resulted in a Chiefs 27-24 win. Mahomes and Brady combined for 807 passing yards, the most combined passing yards between two opposing quarterbacks in a single game in 2020. Plus, Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill registered 269 receiving yards and three touchdown catches in the contest making him the third player with at least 200 receiving yards in a single quarter since 1980.

Both teams will be feeling high on energy as the Buccaneers won each of their past seven games after week 12 and Kansas City enter Super Bowl 2021 having won 12 straight games started by Mahomes – and there’s a lot riding on each team to get the victory. Other than the obvious silverware, there will be plenty at stake for who manages to become NFL Champions.

If the Chiefs get the win, and our first NFL prediction for 2021 comes true, it will be their third Super Bowl victory and they will become the first team to earn consecutive Super Bowl titles since the 2003-04 New England Patriots, having previously won Super Bowls IV and LIV. This would be head coach Andy Reid’s second Lombardi Trophy win and at age 62 would make him the oldest head coach to win back-to-back Super Bowl championships. Additionally, it would also make Mahomes the youngest starting quarterback to win multiple Super Bowl titles, joining Brady as the only starting quarterbacks to win the Super Bowl in two of their first four career seasons.

If the Buccaneers were to get the victory, 2021 would be their second Super Bowl win and make them the seventh club to win the Super Bowl as a Wild Card team. It would give head coach Bruce Arians his first Super Bowl and, at the age of 68, make him the oldest head coach to win a Super Bowl. For Tom Brady it would mean a seventh Super Bowl, extending the mark for the most by any player ever and would allow him to join Peyton Manning as the only starting quarterbacks to win Super Bowls with multiple franchises. Can Tom Brady add to his ridiculous career statistics?

So, as you can see, it really means a lot to both sides, and it all comes to a head to this Sunday. Who do you see coming away with the Lombardi Trophy?
