Southwell Place 6 preview | 24th May

17.50 – Download The At The Races App Novices’ Handicap Chase – 2m4f

LIVELY CITIZEN has a great chance to make it two-from-two over fences. He was second in an Imperial Cup over hurdles last year off a 14Ib higher mark and has plenty more to come in this sphere. He’s never won over a trip this far but he is the best horse in the race and his class should see him tough to pass.

Selections: LIVELY CITIZEN

18.20 – Play With The Finest Bookmakers, Fitzdares Handicap Chase – 3m1f

GATS AND CO might try and dominate this race from the front. He is eased in grade and is back on the same mark as when winning by 14 lengths last June. He is definitely the one to beat, though JAYTEE was only beaten a neck here last time and has a chance of going one better off the same mark.

Selections: GATS AND CO, JAYTEE

18.50 – Download Fitzdares For Free Race Streaming Handicap Chase – 1m7f

SIR TIVO thumped a 131-rated horse on his last visit here off a 5Ib higher mark and ran well on his return over hurdles last time. Back over fences, on some nice ground, he’s got a great chance. SEA PRINCE was well beaten at Uttoxeter last time but is better than that and ran well on his return last year when second at this course.

Selections: SIR TIVO, SEA PRINCE

19.20 – Join Southwell Golf Club Open NH Flat Race – 1m7f

STRUTTER was a never-nearer eight of 17 on his sole start in a bumper but is expected to improve a lot from that with the experience to draw upon and his connections amongst the winners. He can go well, while SENOR DIAZ has a jumping pedigree but could give the favourite a fright for his in-form handler too. He is connections’ only runner on the card as well.

Selections: STRUTTER, SENOR DIAZ

19.50 – At The Races App Form Study Mares’ Maiden Hurdle – 1m7f

MYSTERICA travelled and jumped smoothly on his hurdles debut at Worcester and probably would have won without being badly bumped at the second last hurdle. He rallied well to only be beaten a neck and compensation surely awaits David Pipe’s charge being open to considerable improvement. Great chance.

Selections: MYSTERICA

20.20 – Matt Hampson Foundation Handicap Hurdle – 3m

COCONUT TWIST ran his best race to date when second at Fontwell last time and is only a couple of pounds higher for this race, so he could be capable of going a place better. I’ll also cover with WESTERN JILL who is back over hurdles and down in grade after unseating on chase debut and might emerge as a threat.

Selections: COCONUT TWIST, WESTERN JILL
