Goodwood Place 6 preview | 27th May

13.30 – William Hill Festival Stakes (Listed)

EL DRAMA won his last start in Listed company and was beaten just a neck in the Group 1 Jebel Hatta two starts ago before a respectable eighth behind Lord North last time. Roger Varian’s charge is a high-class horse and was second to Baaeed on his only previous visit here, so he’s a massive player. FRANCESCO CLERMONTE is three-from-three and could turn out to be a Group 1 horse. He is favourite and could remain unbeaten if he can rise to the occasion against tougher opponents.

Tips: EL DRAMA, FRANCESCO CLERMONTE

14.05 – William Hill Harroways Handicap

ANCESTRAL LAND was a good two-year-old last year, winning once and placing twice, including when third in a Group 3 behind Knight at Newbury. He ran very well on his return in the Craven Stakes when fourth and shaped better than the beaten position indicated at this course last time. The drop in trip should suit and he could go well at a price, while URBAN SPRAWL has been in superb form of late and could be hard to pass. DARK THIRTY won at York’s Dante meeting last week and had to make the shortlist.

Tips: ANCESTRAL LAND, URBAN SPRAWL, DARK THIRTY

14.35 – William Hill / British EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes

HELLFIRE BAY has lots of speed in her pedigree and this filly by Zoustar could turn out to be useful for her powerful connections. She could be value against the favourite, who is much too short in the betting after being comfortably held on debut at Newmarket. LA GUARIDA ran a big race from the front when third in what was a strong novice stakes for the grade at Newmarket. That form looks stronger than Indispensable’s third on debut and she should progress.

Tips: HELLFIRE BAY, LA GUARIDA

15.10 – Tony Barrett Memorial Handicap

COURAGE MON AMI has bolted up in both starts easily, leaving the impression he could be a serious horse going forward. This is obviously a step up in grade but he makes his handicap debut off a nice mark and this Gold Cup entry is strongly fancied to remain unbeaten. I’ll cover with strong stayer NATHANEAL GREENE just in case the unexpected happens.

Tips: COURAGE MON AMI, NATHANEAL GREENE

15.45 – Darley / EBF Fillies’ Restricted Novice Stakes

MAGICAL STORY is a daughter of the high-class Nathaniel and is related to the smart Glorious Romance. Her connections do well with two-year-old debutants and this filly could be another potential above-average type. She has to go on the list, as does fellow newcomer ROYAL MILA and ROGUE PRINCESS, who both have nice pedigrees and hail from yards who can get one ready. This race should prove informative.

Tips: MAGICAL STORY, ROYAL MILA, ROGUE PRINCESS

16.20 – British EBF 40th Anniversary Fillies’ Handicap

CRYSTAL ESTRELLA was impressive in winning on her sole visit here last year and was unlucky not to win on her reappearance at Brighton last time our when a head second. Back over this longer distance, with that run under her belt, she could be hard to beat. GOOD MORALS has won her last two starts with lots to spare though, so there’s a chance she will complete the hat-trick.

Tips: CRYSTAL ESTRELLA, GOOD MORALS
