Scholfield Speaks: Racing fans in for a treat as Altior takes on Cyrname

Altior and Cyrname face off this weekend. and what a race it is for the racing fans! I’m one of Altior’s biggest fans but on Saturday I think I’ll be siding with Cyrname around Ascot. He will be fully wound up by Paul Nicholls and I think he’s got more things in his favour than Altior has so, on this occasion, I’m going to go with Cyrname.

I’ve had a good week up until now. Had a good winner earlier in the week with Champagne Court which was a great start so hopefully I can add to that this weekend. Here are my rides this weekend.

Saturday 23rd November

Haydock

14:25 – 3m½f – Stayers’ Handicap Hurdle (Grade 3) (Class 1) (4yo+)

Tedham (3217-6) (Jonjo O’Neill)

I’m at Haydock tomorrow in the Stayers’Handicap Hurdle on Tedham.

Obviously it’s a very competitive race and you can’t rule any of them out, which you’d expect in a race like this with a £100,000 prize. Tedham is a second season novice who had very good form last season. I’m sure he’ll appreciate the step up in distance. He’s got a good racing weight at 10 stone 9lbs. I’m hoping for a good run.

Sunday 24th November

Exeter

14:20 – 3m – Handicap Chase (Class 3) (4yo+ 0-125)

Garrane (2P32-7) (Jeremy Scott)

Off to Exeter on Sunday and my first ride is the 2:20, a three mile handicap chase. I ride a horse called Garrane for Jeremy Scott.

Garrane is a horse who looks to be in very good form. He had plenty of good results last season, although was slightly disappointing last time at Cheltenham. However, if can bring back that form from last season he’ll be in with a good chance.

15:20 -Handicap Hurdle (Class 4) (3yo+ 0-110)

D’Waterside (0/367-) (Katie Stephens)

I ride another one later on in the 3:20 called D’Waterside. It’s his first run for the yard and he looks off a workable mark. Hopefully the fact that it’s his first run will improve him
