Sandown Place 6 preview | 7th March

13.15 – Spectra Group ‘National Hunt’ Novices’ Hurdle – 1m7f

Gary Moore’s AUTHORISED SPEED ran poorly when only fifth in the Grade 1 Tolworth Hurdle having been sent off favourite but he is a lot better than that and last season’s Champion Bumper fifth should comfortably outclass this field now dropped significantly in grade.

Selections: AUTHORISED SPEED

13.50 – Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Memorial Amateur Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle – 1m7f

MAGISTRATO was beaten a long way into second last time but Paul Nicholls has always thought a good deal of him and he is too well-treated based on his form last season. He drops into this grade for the first time and is the one to beat. FAKIR wasn’t at his best over fences last time but is back over hurdles off a handy mark.

Selections: MAGISTRATO, FAKIR

14.25 – Cardinal Wolsey Handicap Chase – 1m7f

GAMARET made a successful chase/handicap debut after 11 months off at Newbury on New Year’s Eve and has a great chance to make it four wins from five starts under rules. DOUGLAS TALKING beat a good horse on his last visit here and is hard to beat when allowed a soft lead, while HEARTBREAK KID is now operating from below his last successful mark.

Selections: GAMARET, DOUGLAS TALKING, HEARTBREAK KID

15.00 – Grand Military Gold Cup – 3m

BROKEN HALO jumped and travelled really well en route to beating last year’s winner of this race Rolling Dylan over course-and-distance comfortably last time and must have strong credentials with a similar showing in the big race of the day. ALMAZHAR GARDE has fallen to a winnable mark and has the back-class to really serve it up to the favourite.

Selections: BROKEN HALO, ALMAZHAR GARDE

15.35 – Team Forces Handicap Hurdle – 2m3f

ROYAUME UNI was down the field in the Lanzarote last time but has lots of good form in this sphere and might stage a revival, while MASTER DEBONAIR, a former Grade 2 winner, might about to get back something near his better form and would have good claims should he be able to build on his latest fourth.

Selections: ROYAUME UNI, MASTER DEBONAIR

16.10 – Anne Boleyn Novices’ Handicap Hurdle – 2m3f

A large field for the last race on the preview but HERMINO AA confirmed the promise of his hurdles debut third when opening his account in good style at Plumpton last time and will make his handicap debut off a fairly nice mark. He is open to a lot more improvement and should be able to hit the frame granted a clear passage.

Selections: HERMINO AA
