14.14 Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai Apprentice Handicap

Allegrino is the one to beat in the opener but a chance is taken on RED MOON. He is down in grade for his handicap debut and has Toby Moore on his back. Off an opening mark of 60, and being in receipt of so much favourite from the favourite, I can see him running a big race.

14.44 Peter Lawrence Memorial Handicap

BLUE PRINCE is on a long losing run but has shaped really well on his last couple of starts, arguably being unlucky on both occasions, staying on well to finish third each time. He has lots of wins and placed efforts off higher marks in tougher assignments, so he’s quite a confident choice to get back to winning ways.

15.14 R Hannon Racing Supports The Savitri Waney Charity EBF Novice Stakes 

A lot of guesswork needed in this event but the marginal vote goes to GOLD REEF CITY for the Ralph Beckett team. He’s nicely bred and connections do well with similar types, so he could have a part to play in the finish. Not a confident choice but I have to pick something!

An intriguing contest for the grade. A lot of these can be given a chance but Michael Bell’s WILD VIOLET has been solid on both starts to date, placing at Newmarket and Wolverhampton. She might be able to put her experience to good use and open her account. She ought to be in the shake-up.

16.22 H S Lester Memorial Challenge Cup ‘Confined’ Handicap

Despite still being in search of a first win, CRIMINAL had a fantastic chance to get off the mark. He placed three times last year off higher marks in stronger races and won’t have many better chances to register a first career success for Richard Hughes. I’m hopeful he’ll do very well.

16.57 Shipseys Marquees Handicap

I like the look of EUTROPIA, who is generally consistent and knows how to win. She wasn’t best placed in her hat-trick bid last time out but stayed on well from an impossible position and Billy Loughnane takes over in the saddle on this occasion. She should be able to pose a serious threat at the business end.
