Newmarket Place 6 betting preview | July 7th

Steven Dowler is taking on today’s Boosted Place 6 pool at Newmarket. Check out his preview below and if you agree with his selections, why not join forces with his Syndicate?

Newmarket Betting Preview

13.20 – British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes (GBB Race) – 6f

IVORY MADONNA sets a good standard based upon her creditable third in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot despite making a mess of the start. A repeat of that performance should see Richard Spencer’s charge collect the spoils with the minimum of fuss.

Selections: IVORY MADONNA

13.50 – Bahrain Trophy Stakes (Group 3) – 1m5f

Not a lot to separate a few of these on official ratings but ZECHARIAH ran a huge race when denied by the narrowest of margins in the Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot and should have more to come here. With Ryan Moore in the saddle, he’s taken to go one better. MASEKELA was a fine fourth in the Derby and this test of stamina should suit. He has a bit to find with the former though on a line through Westover.

Selections: ZECHARIAH, MASEKELA

14.25 – Close Brothers July Stakes (Group 2) – 6f

An excellent renewal of the July Stakes with the front two in the market hard to split. PERSIAN FORCE lost his unbeaten record in the Coventry Stakes but he ran a great race to finish second and will have learnt a lot. He should go close. LITTLE BIG BEAR won the Windsor Castle, beating subsequent Listed winner Rocket Rodney and is worth his place in this line-up. These two set a very high standard.

Selections: PERSIAN FORCE, LITTLE BIG BEAR

15.00 – Bet Boost At bet365 Handicap (Heritage Handicap) – 6f

An ultra-competitive handicap but Karl Burke’s LETHAL LEVI has been consistent all season and while this requires another career-best, he should run his usual honest race from a favourable high draw. The top-weight HIERARCHY was well beaten in the Commonwealth Cup but will find this easier and, with James Doyle booked to ride, a bold display could be on the cards. DEODAR rounds off the trio in this event.

Selections: LETHAL LEVI, HIERARCHY, WITCH HUNTER, DEODAR

15.35 – Princess Of Wales’s Close Brothers Stakes (Group 2) – 1m4f

Charlie Appleby’s YIBIR has yet to win in three starts this campaign but he’s not done much wrong in defeat in all of them and while he was turned over by Living Legend here on his penultimate start, he’s better off at the weights this time round and conditions will be right up his street. He is the one to beat. I will also add in WEST END CHARMER, who could be tailor-made for this distance now that he’s older.

Selections: YIBIR, WEST END CHARMER

16.10 – Edmondson Hall Solicitors Sir Henry Cecil Stakes (Listed) – 1m

Mighty Ulysses was a place in front of Andrew Balding’s BERKSHIRE SHADOW in the St James’s Place Stakes but the latter had the worst passage of the pair, yet he was only beaten around a length at the finish. He previously ran well here when fifth in the 2,000 Guineas, faring third best of those drawn low and wasn’t beaten far when fourth in last year’s Group 1 Dewhurst. I think he’s an attractive choice for this race and will be the sole pick for the final leg of today’s preview.

Selections: BERKSHIRE SHADOW
