Perth Place 6 preview | 26th April
13.30 – Congratulations Corach Rambler Grand National 2023 Maiden Hurdle
INVICTUS WORLD has improved with each start and having ran well in both starts at this course, he opened his account at the third time of asking at Navan. He is heavily respected on hurdles debut, while CREAM OF THE WEST left plenty to work on when sixth on rules debut in December at Ayr and should improve.
Selections: INVICTUS WORLD, CREAM OF THE WEST
14.00 – BetVictor Balnakeilly Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase
HUELGOAT has a fine strike-rate over fences, winning his first four starts and has placed in three starts since. His trainer won this last year, so while he has the burden of top-weight, he is a major player with Lorcan Williams maintaining the partnership. FUSAIN was only a remote third in a Grade 1 but this is a significant ease in grade, so he could be hard to beat.
Selections: HUELGOAT, FUSAIN
14.30 – Phil Nelson Capercaillie Handicap Chase
DREAMS OF HOME won this race twelve months ago from a 2Ib higher mark and is 6Ib below his last winning mark. He has yet to match that form in four starts this year but he is capable of winning this again from a career-low mark. I fear ASHINGTON though, who is well-handicapped as well and his stable have been amongst the winners.
Selections: DREAMS OF HOME, ASHINGTON
15.00 – British EBF BetVictor Gold Castle ‘National Hunt’ Novices’ Hurdle (Listed)
GIOVINCI has won both starts over hurdles by a combined 20 lengths and while this is a step up in grade, Lucinda Russell’s charge shouldn’t be underestimated and has a good chance. REGAL BLUE was really impressive on hurdles debut and is open to plenty more improvement, so he could be capable of taking the rise in grade in his stride.
Selections: GIOVINCI, REGAL BLUE
15.30 – BetVictor Fair Maid Of Perth Mares’ Chase (Listed)
BRIDES HILL will find this much easier than the Grade 1 she contested last time when pulled up and the step up in trip is worth an experiment. I thought she showed a tough attitude to win in this grade two starts ago and that form has worked out well (third won Listed race since), so she merits serious consideration. KAPARD is included as cover.
Selections: BRIDES HILL, KAPARD
16.05 – Canine Partners Mares’ Handicap Hurdle
AUTUMN RETURN landed a pair of mares’ novice hurdles at Market Rasen in September and Catterick in December and hasn’t been disgraced in two stronger handicaps the last two times, especially last time. She is well-treated off this mark of 112 and gets the sole vote to potentially take the spoils with Brian Hughes taking over the reins from a conditional.
Selections: AUTUMN RETURN
