Newton Abbott Place 6 preview | 2nd October

14.15 – Aubrey Loze Memorial Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase – 2m

A very nice card to start a fresh week and in the opener, Imperial Cup winner ICEO is fancied to make a successful chase debut for the Paul Nicholls team. He is the class act in the field and should be too good for these. TIMEFORATUNE was formerly trained by Paul Nicholls though and won on his final start for the former at Taunton. He is an interesting chase debutant now in the care of Evan Williams and is covered.

Tips: ICEO, TIMEFORATUNE

14.45 – Weatherbys Stallion Book Conditional Jockeys’ Selling Handicap Hurdle – 2m2f

IDILICO isn’t the force he once was but he did score off a 2Ib higher mark last summer and could win this if he handles the ground off his basement mark. PEACEFUL SUNDAY failed to build on his fourth at Stratford when down the field at Worcester but is better than that and is well handicapped on last year’s form. He should be competitive in this grade.

Tips: IDILICO, PEACEFUL SUNDAY

15.15 – Paul Ferguson’s Jumpers To Follow Novices’ Hurdle – 2m

COLONEL WHIZZ ran a really good race on his debut in a bumper at Market Rasen when second and should be able to improve on that now he is turned to hurdles. He is seemingly the choice of Sean Bowen as well. PRINCE IMPERIAL has shown encouragement in all four starts over hurdles and goes well on testing ground so he’s sure to be thereabouts with more to come.

Tips: COLONEL WHIZZ, PRINCE IMPERIAL

15.45 – Weatherbys Handicap Chase – 3m1f

BELLS OF PETERBORO is dropped in grade for his return to chasing and he goes well on testing ground, as the last time he ran on it, he finished second in a stronger race at Chepstow. He placed in his last three attempts at this sphere and is handicapped to have a massive say in the outcome. FANTASTIKAS is also dropped down considerably in grade and goes well on this sort of ground. He‘s a leading player.

Tips: BELLS OF PETERBORO, FANTASTIKAS

16.15 – Weatherbys nhstallions.co.uk Novices’ Handicap Hurdle – 3m2f

BEN LILLY cruised to success over C&D just 10 days ago on similar ground and a 3Ib rise is extremely lenient on the balance. A repeat of that win should see him complete the double, while MACTAVISH is in receipt of weight from the whole of the field and should be suited to the step up in trip having gone close when third at Uttoxeter last time. He merits consideration.

Tips: BEN LILLY, MACTAVISH

16.45 – Par Inn Cornwall Handicap Hurdle – 2m5f

HOWLING MILAN has an absence to overcome but he goes well fresh and the last time he ran on ground similar to today’s description, he finished third at Bangor off a mark of 120. Down to a mark of 99 with Ned Fox claiming a further 5Ib, he is dangerous to rule out. SHALLOW RIVER went close off this mark back in June in a stronger race and is effective on deep ground, so he can be added to the shortlist.

Tips: HOWLING MILAN, SHALLOW RIVER
