Newbury Place 6 preview | 22nd April

13.30 – Dubai Duty Free Finest Surprise Stakes – 1m4f

MOJO STAR has run some major races in defeat in his career so far, who was runner-up in the Derby, St Leger and the Gold Cup on his only start last year. He handles all ground and doesn’t have anything to find with the favourite, so he could be up to making a winning reappearance. LONE EAGLE was second in an Irish derby and if the blinkers have a positive outcome, he could run a big race on stable debut for Ralph Beckett.

Selections: MOJO STAR, LONE EAGLE

14.05 – Dubai Duty Free Stakes – 7f

STENTON GLIDER was seriously impressive on debut at Chester and while this is a step up in grade, she has the potential to be very smart and is fancied to make an impact with improvement on the cards. I really like her chances. EMBRACE opened her account in good style at Wolverhampton and is interesting, while SWINGALONG was fourth in a Group 1 on her final start last term and has place possibilities.

Selections: STENTON GLIDER, EMBRACE, SWINGALONG

14.40 – Watership Down Stud Too Darn Hot Greenham Stakes – 7f

CHARYN has firmly been aimed at this race and should be shorter in the betting, who won on debut at Haydock and was third in the Group 2 Mill Reef before claiming a Group 2 in France on soft ground. He should be suited to the step up in trip and has a better chance than his odds imply, while CHALDEAN sets the standard and is clear of the field on ratings. He is the one to beat.

Selections: CHARYN, CHALDEAN

15.15 – BetGoodwin Spring Cup Handicap – 1m

LATTAM overcame a troubled passage to land the 27-runner Irish Lincolnshire at the Curragh on his reappearance and, from only a 5Ib higher mark, this promising four-year-old could take some beating with a repeat performance. I’ll also cover with BRUNCH, who was second on his return in a Listed event and is partnered by William Buick with his trainer amongst the winners. He has a good place chance at least.

Selections: LATTAM, BRUNCH

15.50 – Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships Maiden Stakes – 1m

GREATEST TIME ran a promising race when second on debut at Newmarket and that form looks really strong, as the winner subsequently finished second in a Listed event. He is expected to take the step up the ladder this season and it would come as a major shock if he wasn’t at least in the frame. If he is fit enough though, he should go close to winning this race.

Selections: GREATEST TIME

16.20 – Too Darn Hot Darley Maiden Stakes – 1m3f

ASTRODOME cost an enormous 1,200,000 gns as a yearling and this son of Sea The Stars, who is related to Too Darn Hot out of Yorkshire Oaks winner Dar Re Mi is likely to be all the rage for this contest. He fared best of the newcomers when third on debut at Doncaster and, with that run under his belt, he is strongly fancied to win this with Frankie Dettori.

Selections: ASTRODOME
