Newbury Place 6 preview | 21st April

13.30 – Dubai Duty Free Golf World Cup EBF Maiden Stakes – 5f

This race could prove informative and MATTERS MOST, who hails from the Ralph Beckett team, could go well on debut and is bred to be pretty smart. AMO Racing can do little wrong at present and debutant KALIK has to be given the utmost respect. Clive Cox does well with two-year-old’s and SUCCESSION has to enter the reckoning as well.

Selections: MATTERS MOST, KALIK, SUCCESSION

14.05 – Dubai Duty Free Handicap – 6f

SIR THOMAS GRESHAM ran a nice race after a year off when a staying-on fifth of 14 at Southwell and if he doesn’t suffer the bounce-factor, he is sure to be thereabouts. CRAZY LUCK is unbeaten in two starts at this course and is a pound lower than his last success, so he cannot be underestimated under the assistance of Oisin Murphy. POPMASTER drops in grade on his return and was second in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot from a 3Ib higher mark last year, so a bold bid is expected.

Selections: SIR THOMAS GRESHAM, CRAZY LUCK, POPMASTER,

14.40 – Dreweatts Maiden Fillies’ Stakes – 1m2f

GHARA caught the eye on debut when a keeping-on sixth and should be suited to the step up in trip distance here. Her trainer has a good record in this race and James Doyle takes the ride this time around, so she could be set to play a leading role. SHIVA SHAKTI shaped with plenty of promise and potential when second on her debut at Yarmouth and will know more today, so she could go one place better.

Selections: GHARA, SHIVA SHAKTI

15.15 – Darley Novice Stakes – 1m2f

A big season could be on the cards for MILITARY ORDER, who is a brother to Derby and King George VI winner Adayar and got the job done when stepped up to a mile at Newmarket six months ago. He should come into his own over this longer distance and could be hard to beat. I’ll also throw in TRUST HOUSE at a wild price, who is the only debutant in the field and could have been found an easier opportunity to make his racecourse debut. He could outrun his odds and wasn’t a cheap purchase for connections either.

Selections: MILITARY ORDER, TRUST HOUSE

15.50 – Compton Beauchamp Estates Ltd Silver Bar Handicap – 2m

VINO VICTRIX was consistent throughout the whole of last season and his second in the Cesarewitch is the best form on offer. His fourth behind Wise Eagle has also worked out well, so there’s a lot to like and he could be ready to go close on his reappearance. ZAIN NIGHTS ran well on his final three start last term when stepped up in trip and William Buick has been booked to ride. Roger Charlton’s charge must enter calculations with more to come this term.

Selections: VINO VICTRIX, ZAIN NIGHTS

16.25 – Dubai Duty Free Full Of Surprises Handicap – 7f

CARAGIO ran a decent race on the testing ground when fourth in the Group 3 Horris Hill over C&D behind Knight despite racing keenly and will have his sights lowered here on handicap debut in his return. His experience of this course is valuable and I’m surprised he isn’t pushing for favouritism. LORD UHTRED also makes his handicap debut and improved with each start last year. He also makes the shortlist.

Selections: CARAGIO, LORD UHTRED
