Newbury Place 6 Preview | 16th May

13.25 Sky Sports Racing Aston Park Stakes (Group 3)

KALPANA was last seen winning on Champions Day at Ascot, and while this won’t be no easy task on her reappearance, her class might see her land the spoils.

However, WEST WIND BLOWS gave Calandagan a huge scare on his penultimate start in the Sheema Classic and a repeat showing could well see him upset the favourite. He might be allowed a soft lead and will be hard to pass if producing his best.

Tips: KALPANA & WEST WIND BLOWS

14.00 Childwickbury Stud Fillies’ Trial Stakes (Listed)

The Ralph Beckett-trained GOLDEN ORBIT did well to make a winning debut at Newmarket, and with more to come, she could extend her unbeaten record.

Stable companion LADY ROISIA might be the back-up option, as she won nicely at Nottingham when last seen and is by no means out of this in spite of the former being a lot shorter in the market.

Tips: GOLDEN ORBIT & LADY ROISIA

14.35 Boyle Sports Lockinge Stakes (Group 1)

NOTABLE SPEECH ran really well when fourth in this race last year despite lacking a run but this time he has fitness on his side following a good fourth in Keeneland. The Breeders’ Cup Mile winner can make his class count this time. I strongly fancy him to take the feature.

Tips: NOTABLE SPEECH

15.10 Highclere Castle Gin Carnarvon Stakes (Listed)

ALBERT EINSTEIN has let his supporters down on both starts this season following his excellent two wins as a juvenile but he’ll improve again from his latest third here and should be thereabouts.

Karl Burke’s ROYAL FIXATION is the main vote though. Last seen finishing third in a Group 1 at Newmarket, the Group 2 Lowther Stakes winner can take this much easier assignment before going back up in grade.

Tips: ALBERT EINSTEIN & RIYAL FIXATION

15.45 Trade Nation London Gold Cup

MY LOVE IS KING came within a whisker of beating Maltese Cross two starts back and the winner has advertised the form since. He was a well held second at Newmarket last time out but is likely to improve again and is a very appealing candidate for the Gosden’s under Rab Havlin, who does well in these silks.

AL AZD is improving with each start and won decisively at Doncaster last time out, so he’s another to note.

Tips: MY LOVE IS KING & AL AZD

16.20 Hong Kong Jockey Club World Pool Handicap

KORKER has become dangerously well-handicapped and has plenty of good efforts to his name off much higher marks and in stronger events. He finished an unlucky third in a stronger race at York back in October off a 2lb higher figure and has slipped to a mark of 93. I make him my best bet on the card.

Tips: KORKER
