HIERARCHY has made the frame on his last four starts off reduced marks and must have excellent claims despite the quick two-day turnaround from his third at Bath. His main danger could turn out to be the grade-dropping TREACHEROUS, who is dangerously well handicapped on his historical form.

CURZON has improved in each of his three starts and could be thereabouts, as could ROGUE BULLET despite underperforming at Catterick last time out. FORT AUGUSTUS made an encouraging start in nurseries when runner-up over C&D two weeks ago, though, and is a leading player.

LOCH LEVEN has shown enough to date to suggest she is more than capable of winning this contest. She is drawn well and came close to winning on her only previous course start, so she’s the one to beat. I wouldn’t rule out TOWERLANDS, who should be able to build on his debut at Newmarket.

CHAR shaped promisingly when runner-up at Salisbury, doing all of his best work at the finish, and is open to a lot more improvement. With that experience under his belt, Roger Varian’s charge has every chance of going one place better.

It’s hard to oppose the hot favourite QASAQ, who was able to overcome inexperience and a pace bias to make a winning debut at Chelmsford 10 months ago. Despite his lack of a recent run, this is a great opportunity to maintain his unbeaten record with bigger targets to come.

SPEEDING BULLET could only manage fifth at this level last time out, but he’s ideally drawn here, and the first-time blinkers could sharpen him up. He should go well from a handy draw, but VERY CLEVER returned a comfortable winner over C&D nine days ago and will be a tough nut to crack.
