Hereford Place 6 preview | 6th April
13.50 – Cazoo Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Chase – 3m1f
Trainer Sam Thomas has an excellent 40% strike-rate at this course and chase debutant PRINCE DES FICHAUX has to be considered, who had placed in five of his seven starts over hurdles. The big danger is undoubtedly DUC DE BEAUCHENE, who is 11Ib lower than when last successful and should be competitive in this weak race.
Selections: PRINCE DES FICHAUX, DUC DE BEAUCHENE
14.25 – Cazoo ‘National Hunt’ Maiden Hurdle – 2m3f
Martin Keighley’s ANOTHER DAY OUT only found one too good on her hurdles debut at Southwell, where she tried to win from the front plus her jumping was polished for one so inexperienced under rules. That form looks strong and she has plenty more to come, so she is fancied to potentially go one better under Sean Bowen with improvement on the cards.
Selections: ANOTHER DAY OUT
15.00 – Cazoo Handicap Chase – 2m
YELLOW JACKET has improved with each start for Donald McCain and did well to finish second on his chase debut, which clearly brought about improvement. The six-year-old is the one to beat on that form, though LONIMOSS BARELIERE has enough experience in this sphere to think he can win soon. He has yet to win under rules but this isn’t a hard race to break his duck.
Selections: YELLOW JACKET, LONIMOSS BARELIERE
15.35 – Black Mountain Botanicals Mares’ Handicap Hurdle – 2m3f
I GIORNI and CHANTILLY HAZE battled it out at this course last time when the former took the spoils and it is hard to see one of these not in the frame with most of the remainder having plenty to prove. The latter is better off at the weights this time, so connections will fancy their chances of reversing the form, while the former is improving and could confirm the form. It is hard to split the pair, so both make the shortlist.
Selections: I GIORNI, CHANTILLY HAZE
16.10 – Silvershine Handicap Chase – 2m4f
JUST GO FOR IT is better known as a hurdler but she did shape well in her two previous goes at this sphere and has been in good form over the smaller obstacles of late, winning two of her last three. She’s a big player off a 5Ib lower mark, while LESKINFERE is the lowest of the bunch but is 2Ib below his last success and gets a chunk of weight from all rivals. He could make the frame on the back of a fair third last time.
Selections: JUST GO FOR IT, LESKINFERE
16.45 – Cazoo Novices’ Handicap Hurdle – 2m
Venetia Williams does well at this course and on assumption TOKYO LIVE is over his fall last time, he can take a step forward in this race and go well. PLAY BY THE RULES won in good style by 11 lengths last time on handicap debut and an 11Ib higher mark in this sphere shouldn’t prevent him from going close in his follow-up bid.
Selections: TOKYO LIVE, PLAY BY THE RULES
