Cheltenham Win 6 Preview | 10th March
13.20 Sky Bet Supreme Novices’ Hurdle
EL CAIROS made amends for his unlucky hurdles debut when easily scoring last time out and was a good fifth in last season’s Champion Bumper. I think he’s a major player for team-Elliott, while the likes of fellow last-time-out winners TALK THE TALK, SOBER GLORY are others to consider in a typically-competitive Supreme to start the Festival.
Tips: EL CAIROS, TALK THE TALK, SOBER GLORY & OLD PARK STAR
14.00 Singer Arkle Challenge Trophy Novices’ Chase
The Arkle looks mouthwatering with Kopek Des Bordes up against LULAMBA. I’m still in the camp of Nicky Henderson, as the five-year-old has been so impressive on all three chase starts and is only going to get better. He will want further, but is sure to be finishing his race off to good effect and can hopefully succeed. I will cover KOPEK DES BORDES though, as the aim is to try and win every race for the pool.
Tips: LULAMBA & KOPEK DES BORDES
14.40 McCoy Contractors Juvenile Handicap Hurdle
DIGNAM has won three of his four hurdle starts and was far from disgraced at the highest level in France when last seen ground he wouldn’t have liked. A mark of 131 doesn’t seem excessive and I suspect this race has been the plan all season. I do like MANLAGA though, who has won two of her three starts and has leading claims, while SARATOGA and GLEN TO GLEN are others to enter the equation.
Tips: DIGNAM, MANLAGA, SARATOGA & GLEN TO GLEN
15.20 Trustmarque Ultima Handicap Chase
This race should suit KONFUSION, who has done so well over fences already and ran well when third in the Peter Marsh last time out. He can go well, while top-weight IROKO should make a bold bid and JOHNNYWHO is due a big victory having come close here last season. BLOW YOUR WAD should be suited to the return of this longer distance and also goes on the ticket.
Tips: KONFUSION, IROKO, JOHNNYWHO & BLOW YOUR WAD
16.00 Unibet Champion Hurdle Challenge Trophy
THE NEW LION hasn’t looked like he is truly a two-miler but he’s unbeaten on all completed starts and is a worthy participant. However, BRIGHTERDAYSAHEAD is better than she showed here last term and this multiple Grade 1 winner won’t have a better opportunity to show her true colours in the Champion Hurdle. There’s every chance she will confirm latest form with Lossiemouth.
Tips: THE NEW LION & BRIGHTERDAYSAHEAD
16.40 Sun Racing Plate Handicap Chase
DOWN MEMORY LANE has a good record after a break and won a really strong Listed race when last seen. With plenty of improvement to come, I think a big run is on the cards being one of the classiest horses in the field. WILL THE WISE is an interesting contender dropping back in trip, while C&D winner THEATRE NATIVE cannot be ruled out.
Tips: DOWN MEMORY LANE, WILL THE WISE & THEATRE NATIVE
