Catterick Place 6 preview | 25th January

13.45 – Racing To School Conditional Jockeys’ Veterans’ Handicap Chase – 3m1f

SAM’S ADVENTURE ran a good race when third at this course last time in the Yorkshire Grand National and the assessor has kindly dropped his mark two pounds plus he is down in grade as well. Brian Ellison’s 11-year-old is 13 pounds below his last winning mark and could outclass these with a good claimer in the saddle, who offsets a valuable three pounds. TRIXSTER goes well for Charlie Price and has his first test in a veterans’ race from the same mark as when second last time. He should do well too.

Selections: Sam’s Adventure, Trixster

PERCULATOR was off the mark at the third time of asking in bumpers at Carlisle in October and built on his promising hurdles debut when runner-up at Wetherby last-time-out. If he can reproduce a similar performance in this race with more to come, the six-year-old should play a leading role. HOWLINGMADMURDOCK is unbeaten in two starts under rules and displayed a good attitude to win on his hurdles debut last time. This longer trip should actually suit him better, so Tom Lacey’s charge has to enter calculations.

Selections: Perculator, Howlingmadmurdock

BOLSOVER BILL completed the hat-trick in emphatic style last time at Ffos Las and is two-from-two over this course-and-distance. The handicapper has reacted by raising his mark 10 pounds but he is in serious form at the moment the four-timer beckons. CRACK DU NINIAN drops into a class five for the first time over fences and is seven pounds below his last winning mark as well, so the top-weight has to be feared being his trainer’s only runner on the card. The change in headgear could also help him rekindle his best form.

Selections: Bolsover Bill, Crack Du Ninian

15.15 – Download The Vickers.Bet App Handicap Hurdle – 2m 3f

WILL VICTORY has looked good in winning her last two starts, including in this grade last time at Plumpton. This mare has been raised four pounds for that latest success but that shouldn’t prevent her from going close to completing the three-timer. Likewise to Crack Du Ninian in the previous race, she is her trainer’s only runner on the card too. HAJEY only found one too good over course-and-distance a month ago and is only three pounds higher for this race. He has to be considered a major contender in what is a wide-open event.

Selections: Will Victory, Hajey

15.45 – racingtv.com/freetrial Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase – 3m 1f

GIT MAKER returned a smooth winner over course-and-distance last time on only his third chase start and the seven-year-old won three of his four starts over hurdles last season, so he certainly has the winning habit. He has only been raised a pound for that latest success and is the only one of these making good progress of late. He has to shoulder top-weight but he is the class act in the field and has mileage to surpass this mark if able to continue his improvement.

Selections: Git Maker

16.15 – Racing Again 3rd February Mares’ Handicap Hurdle – 1m 7f

MISTY MANI might be the solid option, who was in fine form last year, winning three times, and is only three pounds higher in this race from that latest success. She wasn’t at her best last time but the eight-year-old should be more effective in this and is reunited with Tom Midgley, who finished third in her at Newcastle off a two pounds higher mark. She has the capabilities to go well in this, though BELLE NA BANN is feared most under her claimer.

Selections: Misty Mani
