Saturday Preview: Three Best Bets

Dancing Gemini (13.25 Haydock, Superior Mile)

DANCING GEMINI looks like a standout choice in the opener. He’s mostly been competing at the highest level for a while and this Group 2 winner has a lot of form in Group 1 company (narrow misses on a few occasions) and is sure to appreciate the drop in grade.

He is undoubtedly the best horse in this race (form backs this up too) and he’s placed in the last two renewals of the Lockinge Stakes. With William Buick booked to ride, Roger Teal’s charge is fancied to return to winning ways at the expense of Needle Match.

Pride Of Arras (14.50 Kempton, September Stakes)

An intriguing race with Constitution Hill set to take on Gethin. However, I am drawn to the claims of PRIDE OF ARRAS. This dual Group 2 winner (at York) had his recent second to Item boosted when the winner went onto land the Juddmonte International.

Ralph Beckett’s smart performer was conceding 6lb to the winner, so it was an excellent effort in defeat. If he takes to the surface, then there’s every chance this four-year-old will cause a bit of an upset. I really like his credentials and I fancy him to beat his two market rivals.

Mountain Road (15.05 Haydock, Old Borough Cup)

In the competitive Old Borough Cup, MOUNTAIN ROAD is the most appealing runner. He’s been in very good form of late and backed up his previous third at Ascot with a fine second in the Stayers’ event at York.

He made up so much ground from an impossible position to only be beaten a length, and another half furlong, I have no doubt he would have won.

I don’t see why a 4lb rise will have a major impact on him, so given the form he’s in, I can see Jim Goldie’s participant producing another career best performance.
