Chester Place 6 Preview | 8th May

13.30 CAA Stellar Great Cheshire Handicap

RESPOND can take the opener. He has some strong form in the book and backed up his penultimate win with a fine third at Kempton when last seen. He is preferred to Whip Cracker, who has been given a poor slot in stall twelve.

Tips: RESPOND

14.05 Boodles Darley EBF Maiden Stakes

JOULANY has run to a good level of form on all three starts in defeat and this step up in trip should be right up his street. Drawn well in stall four, this expensive son of Sea The Starts must have an excellent chance to register a first success. I can’t see past him to be honest.

Tips: JOULANY

14.35 Deepbridge Huxley Stakes (Group 2)

Lambourn could prove really hard to beat but the fitness edge of KING’S GAMBIT might just see him cause a bit of an upset. He’s not won for a while but has always been there or thereabouts and ran well when second on his reappearance at Newmarket last month. He looks sure to run another solid race.

Tips: KING’S GAMBIT

15.05 Ladbrokes Chester Cup (Heritage Handicap)

I really like the claims of A PIECE OF HEAVEN in the feature! He’s only found one too good on both Flat starts this year and is only a pound higher than when an unlucky second in last season’s Irish Cesarewitch. With low mileage for his age, and this race seemingly being the long-term plan, I think he has a cracking chance from the box seat in stall one.

Tips: A PIECE OF HEAVEN

15.40 Tom Jones Live At Chester Racecourse Handicap

CLONMACASH might be overpriced. He’s drawn well and following an eye-catching fourth on his penultimate outing, he stayed on strongly to score back at Dundalk last time out. This is probably a stronger event, but he’s not coming over here for the day out. KIRKDALE and MANILA SCOUSE are others to note.

Tips: CLONMACASH, KIRKDALE & MANILA SCOUSE

16.10 Ladbrokes Get A Free Race Bet Today Chester Plate Handicap

TRIBAL STAR always runs his race and put in a good shift when fourth at Newcastle last time out. His last win came off a 2lb higher mark and the cheekpieces are refitted on his return to the grass. Furthermore, he’s drawn nicely in stall four, so this Irish raider must be considered.

I also like WHO’S GLEN, who has placed on four of his last hurdle starts and finished a good fifth in last year’s Chester Cup. Off a 7lb mark for a trainer that is no stranger to success at this meeting, I think he’s going to run very well.

Tips: TRIBAL STAR & WHO’S GLEN
