York Place 6 betting preview | August 19th

13.50 – Sky Bet Handicap (Heritage Handicap) – 1m3f

DARK JEDI was back to winning ways in June and went close when last spotted at Musselburgh. He was a close-up third in this race twelve months ago and while he’s 3Ib higher this time round, he likes this course and should remain competitive. GRAPHITE shaped well here on his return and is only 2Ib above his last winning mark, so he could go well at huge odds, while ANGEL POWER won her only previous start at this course and this former Listed/Group 3 winner has a good chance.

Selections: Dark Jedi, Graphite, Angel Power

14.25 – Weatherbys Hamilton Lonsdale Cup Stakes (Group 2) (British Champions Series) – 2m

Every single one of us wants to see Stradivarius win but I’m concerned he might blow out but I hope I’m wrong. However, TRUESHAN might be the solid option to at least place. He ran a fine race when third in the Goodwood Cup last time despite the ground being fast and Hollie committing him earlier than ideal. He’s a high-class stayer with even more to come and should be more than capable of going close here even if the rain doesn’t arrive. Let’s hope for another great battle between the two great stayers.

Selections: Trueshan

15.00 – Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Gimcrack Stakes (Group 2) – 6f

NOBLE STYLE remained unbeaten at Newmarket three weeks ago and while he was made to work harder than expected, the form is useful as the second ran well here earlier in the week. He should be well-suited to this course and is the one to beat. Marshman is feared but the quick turnaround after just seven days isn’t ideal in my opinion. CHUZZLEWIT was an expensive purchase and while Kevin Ryan’s charge didn’t justify favouritism on debut, he will have learnt a lot and could be top-class with a lot more to come. He’s not discounted at large odds.

Selections: Noble Style, Chuzzlewit

15.35 – Coolmore Wootton Bassett Nunthorpe Stakes (Group 1) (British Champions Series) – 5f

In the feature race, I really like the Simon Crisford-trained FLOTUS who has realised her full potential since positive tactics have been applied of late and, having filled the frame in a pair of Group 1 events, she easily landed a Group 3 at this course over six last time. She has loads of speed and should have no trouble over five as she’s expected to go forward. Her whole campaign has been geared around this race and with track, trip and conditions sure to see her to best effect to blaze the trail, hopefully De Sousa can consume enough energy and get her home in front. She’s my best bet of the day.

Selections: Flotus

16.10 – Assured Data Protection EBF Fillies’ Handicap (Heritage Handicap) – 1m2f

CROACHILL shaped well when second on debut and easily went one better at Doncaster next time over this distance. She was turned over at odds-on last time but was in a messy three-runner affair over further and this bigger field on handicap debut will suit. Given she beat Royal Scandal very easily on her penultimate start, who’s bolted up since, she looks well-handicapped off 84 and over this shorter distance, I can see her running a big race off a low-weight.

Selections: Croachill

16.45 – British Stallion Studs EBF Convivial Maiden Stakes (GBB Race) – 7f

This is wide-open but MANBOOBAH made an encouraging debut when a strong-finishing second at Yarmouth and, with loads more to come, she looks a key player in this race. HI ROYAL is related to some high-class horses and given his trainer is prone to doing well with newcomers, he could go well at a big price here.

Selections: Mahboobah, Hi Royal
