16.44 – Bombardier British-Hopped Amber Beer Handicap (Div 1) – 1m

A wide-open handicap to start proceedings, but STEAL THE SCENE will be a popular choice under the in-form Rossa Ryan. Kevin Frost’s nine-year-old rarely runs a bad race at this track and has run well here on his past four visits, so he should firmly be in the mix.

STREET POET has to be treated with caution given he’s been well-beaten the last two times and his overall profile isn’t attractive, but he’s 10Ib lower than when scoring here back in July and has to be respected on that basis.

SHINE OF BRENDAN hasn’t had much manoeuvre off his handicap mark of late, but has chalked up some good efforts in defeat recently to suggest his turn might be near.

Selections: STEAL THE SCENE, STREET POET, SHINE ON BRENDAN

17.15 – Bombardier British-Hopped Amber Beer Handicap (Div 2) – 1m

The most consistent of this bunch is undoubtedly HERONS NEST, who has been knocking on the door lately and was only beaten half-a-length when last seen. A similar performance here will surely see him in the frame once more.

POPE GREGORY will benefit from the drop back to one-mile and should get involved, while MOXY MARES is very well-treated and a good chance on the pick of his form.

Selections: HERONS NEST, POPE GREGORY, MOXY MARES

17.45 – Bombardier Handicap – 7f

A chance is taken on JACKSTAR who is 4Ib lower than when scoring easily in a class 4 event over C&D back in December 2019. He’s ran excellent races in defeat since from marks of 78-85 and being down to a career-low mark eased in grade, he makes plenty of each-way appeal.

CRITICAL THINKING is a six-time C&D winner and can never be ruled out here having finished runner-up the last three times. He’s likely to give another good account of himself under Rossa Ryan.

Selections: JACKSTAR, CRITICAL THINKING

18.15 – Get Your Ladbrokes Daily Odds Boost Selling Stakes – 1m

This looks a tricky little event so might be worth backing LADY OF DESIRE to topple the market leader. She was a good sixth at this course when last seen despite not getting a clear run and, if deriving for the switch to this yard, she ought to be bang in contention.

TATABOQ is the only one of these to have won and wouldn’t need to improve to go in again given how weak this race is in general. He’s the rightful favourite and should go close.

Selections: LADY OF DESIRE, TATABOQ

18.45 – Play Ladbrokes 5-A-Side On Football Novice Stakes (Plus 10) – 1m4f

An interesting race on paper, but David Simcock is enjoying a good spell of late, therefore, SHENU holds leading claims. He looked rather green on debut at Newcastle until getting the hang of things when the penny finally dropped, staying on to good effect to finish third. Jamie Spencer has his only ride of the evening and his mount can get off the mark here.

Selections: SHENU

19.15 – Betway Handicap – 5f

The feature race of the day features some quality sprinters and LORD RIDDIFORD looks an each-way angle into the race. He was unfortunately awkward leaving the stalls and unseated his rider at the start in a handicap 22 days ago but, if none the worse for that mishap, has a good chance here.

He won over C&D back in November in which Venturous was back in sixth and could confirm that form on 4Ib better terms. As for the latter, Venturous, he’s clearly thriving at present by winning three of his last four outings and although he has to concede weight to his six rivals, he should remain competitive if granted a strongly-run affair.

Selections: LORD RIDDIFORD, VENTUROUS
