A WEEKEND OF BLOCKBUSTER ENTERTAINMENT

The fixture computers have spoiled us this week, with two HUGE games on Saturday. The early kick off in the Premier League is Man City vs Chelsea. Later that day Barcelona host Real Madrid.

Man City vs Chelsea- Sat, Dec 03 12:30

The two favourites to win the Premier League go head to head in a 6 pointer. If the season started in October, Chelsea would be 4 point clear at the top of the table and 9 points ahead of their hosts. But it isn’t. Guardiola took to life in the Premier League like a duck to water and Man City started the season on fire.

Chelsea’s turn of form since their formation change is well known. In those 7 games, Chelsea have won all 7 and conceded only 1 goal. Conte has moulded this squad into genuine title contenders again. However, the Blues have won only 1 of their last 6 visits to the Etihad.

Man City have brought Yaya Toure out from the wilderness, with the Ivorian rewarding with two goals on his return. Such is the depth of City’s squad, that David Silva is limited to a substitute role. As Guardiola brings his style of play to the league, Man City have been averaging 64% possession at home.

What will be critical is how Man City cope defensively. Both teams have a plethora of attacking talent. But Chelsea have built from a solid defensive unit, whilst City have only kept 2 clean sheets in the league. Costa and co will be ready to pounce upon any errors in the City defence. This game has all the ingredients to be a true blockbuster.

Barcelona vs Real Madrid- Sat, Dec 03 15:15

It’s the biggest club football game in world football. It’s Messi vs Ronaldo. It’s El Clasico. 99,000 will fill the Camp Nou to watch Messi, Neymar and Suarez battle Ronaldo, Ramos and Benzema.

Barca have drawn their last 2 league games, giving Real the opportunity to create a gap at the top the league. If Barcelona lose this one, they will already be 9 points behind Real with only 14 games played. Iniesta’s return to fitness will be a massive boost heading into the game. His experience and technical brilliance will be crucial against their fiercest of rivals.

The opposite is true for Real, as they will be without Bale and Kroos when they visit the Camp Nou. Kroos has provided 6 assists already this season and Bale has 5 goals. These injuries will heighten reliance on Ronaldo to provide the chances for Benzema. A more patient Madrid approach is likely considering these injuries and the opposition.

El Clasico usually produces goals. 24 goals in the last 6 meetings gives plenty of reason to get excited about this one. These games are rarely ones to miss, despite the inconvenient kick off time.
