Southwell Place 6 Preview | 2nd October
14.00 Arc All-Weather 1MILLION Bonus Returns Handicap Chase
The Twiston-Davies team are flying of late and another for them could be on the cards with LIGHTNING FLASH in the opener. A winner at Perth last week, the five-year-old will make his chase debut off the same mark and must be recognised as the one to beat with a clear round.
Tips: LIGHTNING FLASH
14.30 Paul Ferguson’s Jumpers To Follow Handicap Chase
The thriving SHANTOU LUCKY completed a four-timer in a canter at Newton Abbot a couple of weeks ago. He’s now 4-4 for James Owen, so although his new mark has kicked in, the eight-year-old could still have more to come. He still remains well handicapped on past form, so he’s selected to maintain his unbeaten stable record.
Tips: SHANTOU LUCKY
15.05 Arc 1MILLION Bonus Bigger Than Ever Handicap
I like the claims of COULDBEAWEAPON in this race. In spite of being winless for 18 starts, he’s been running well of late, placing on four of his last five outings. He’s 25lb lower than when an unlucky second over C&D back in 2022, so another solid showing in what is a poor event looks inevitable.
Tips: COULDBEAWEAPON
15.40 Weatherbys Racing Bank Handicap Hurdle
Sticking with James Owen on the card, I’m drawn to the prospects of FORGET THE WAY off bottom-weight. The eight-year-old finished runner-up over track and trip last season and that form would be good enough to potentially go one place better. His overall record at this course is very good, and with Alex Chadwick taking off 5lb, I think he’s a major contender.
Tips: FORGET THE WAY
16.10 Jodie Standing’s Point-To-Point Recruits Novices’ Hurdle
MASKED MAN must be considered a player on hurdles debut. This very well bred four-year-old is JJ Slevin’s only ride on the card and could turn out to be above average. None of his rivals should offer much resistance to him, so he’s fancied to make a winning start under rules.
Tips: MASKED MAN
16.40 International Stud Book Committee Handicap Hurdle
HEATHER HONEY was rapidly progressive during the summer, winning three on the bounce and has every chance of adding another win despite being off for four months. Given she stays further, I see no reason why she cannot make a bold bid.
Tips: HEATHER HONEY
