Southwell Place 6 preview | 15th May

17.45 – Download The At The Races App Novices’ Handicap Chase – 2m4f

PATAGONIA could only finish a distant sixth at Hexham last time but he went close off this mark two starts back when beaten a short head and has more to come after just three chase starts. FOX’S ROCKS brings a similar Chase profile to the former, who’s best run came when a half-a-length second two starts back and has more to offer as well after three chase starts.

Selections: PATAGONIA, FOX’S SOCKS

Laura Morgan has won the last two renewals of this race and could complete the hat-trick with top-weight FIRE AWAY. He is 9Ib below his last winning mark and has winning form under Adam Wedge. He makes the list, as does the well-treated CALIPSO COLLONGES, who I know has been pulled up the last twice but has the class to beat these if he is on a going day.

Selections: FIRE AWAY, CALIPSO COLLONGES

BY THE GRACE has a smashing pedigree being related to Champion Hurdle winners Morley Street and Granville Again and Nicky Henderson has an impressive 30% strike-rate here, while Nico De Boinville has a 28% strike-rate. This filly could be up to making a winning debut, though DARTING ROSE is a daughter of the high-class Dartmouth and has a chance on debut for Pam Sly.

Selections: BY THE GRACE, DARTING ROSE

19.15 – At The Races App Market Movers Maiden Hurdle – 2m4f

Given Nicky and Nico’s excellent record at this course, WESTWOOD RYDER could give the pair a double on the card. He hasn’t been seen since running a promising race to take second on his only previous start at Huntingdon and has undergone wind surgery since. He is the one to side with, meanwhile MOUNTAIN LEOPARD should be in the shake-up, who’s second at Chepstow behind Doyen Star makes him a leading player.

Selections: WESTWOOD RYDER, MOUNTAIN LEOPARD

19.45 – Southwell Supporting MentalHealthAwarenessWeek Handicap Hurdle – 2m4f

CHTI BALKO can be hard to pass when in the mood. He isn’t the force of old but the 11-year-old has kept some good company during his career and he hasn’t been beaten far in his last three starts. From a career-low mark, Donald McCain’s charge might get back to winning ways. MRS KINSELLA is in receipt of a lot of weight from all of the runners and could be ready make the frame again after finishing third at Hereford from a 2Ib higher mark back in April.

Selections: CHTI BALKO, MRS KINSELLA

20.15 – At The Races App Expert Tips Novices’ Handicap Hurdle – 1m7f

KINGFAST has to be the percentage call, who gained his first win in nearly four years three days ago and will escape a penalty now that he is back out quickly. He is on the same mark and none of the remainder can convince me enough to be on the sheet, so the former gets the clear vote to double his tally for the year.

Selections: KINGFAST
