Solo player lands huge win in Correct Score pool

A solo player had an extremely memorable weekend after their single line ticket landed them a massive return in the £30,000 Correct Score – Pick 4 pool.

With just a single selection in each of the four legs, there was no room for anything but perfection and the ticket got off to a great start as Frankfurt beat Wolfsburg, courtesy of an 85th minute winner, that sealed a 2-1 win for the away side.

In the second leg the player predicted that Hertha Berlin would defeat Augsburg 2-0 and when Javairo Dilrosun put them ahead after 23 minutes it was looking good. However, despite 12 attempts on goal Hertha were unable to double their advantage and as the full time whistle neared, the player must have feared the ticket was dead.

However, Krzysztof Piatek proved the hero deep into injury time, netting a 93rd minute winner that saw Hertha land the 2-0 scoreline. 7,063 units started the pool but, at the halfway mark, only nine remained.

As Sunday arrived, so did the third leg in which Borussia Monchengladbach would play host to Union Berlin. The player had opted for ‘other home win’ which required Monchengladbach to win whilst scoring four or more goals.

The home side were 2-0 up at half time which became 3-1 by the 59th minute. All they needed was a fourth goal and, barring an extremely unlikely comeback, the ticket would be safe. However, for the third consecutive leg the player was made to wait until late in the day for their reward which arrived in the 81st minute to secure a third straight winning leg.

It would all rest on a final leg in which Paderborn were hosting Bundesliga title hopefuls Borussia Dortmund. Once again the player had envisaged a one-sided affair, going for ‘other away win’ which would similarly require Dortmund to win and score four or more.

Unfortunately despite dominating the first half with 63% possession, Dortmund couldn’t find the breakthrough goal and went into the break with the match remaining goalless.

Things were looking bleak but a glimmer of light emerged in the 54th minute as Thorgen Hazard put Dortmund ahead, a lead that was doubled by Jadon Sancho three minutes later.

Paderborn pulled a goal back in the 72nd minute before Sancho quickly struck back again to make it 3-1. The player needed a single goal to land a huge win but time was running out. The 80th minute ticked over and time was ebbing away, would they find the deciding goal?

The question was answered in the 85th minute as Achraf Hakimi converted a cross to make it four. After the agony of the wait, Dortmund then added a fifth in the 89th minute and Sancho completed his hat-trick in the 91st to land a 6-1 humiliation with every goal coming in the second half.

The player had done it! Their single line £1 ticket earnt them a remarkable return of £4,659.49. What an outstanding effort!
