5 relegated players who could be in demand this summer

With Fulham joining West Brom and Sheffield United in the Championship, the vultures are likely to start circling in search of bargain buys. While the bottom three ended up being significantly cut adrift from the rest of the Premier League, some players will still escape the blame and emerge with their reputations intact. Indeed, with title winners Andy Robertson and Georginio Wijnaldum having been bought by Liverpool after being relegated, it’s definitely an interesting transfer option. Here are five relegated players who could make a quick return to the Premier League this summer.

5 relegated Premier League players who could bounce back

Joachim Andersen

Of all the signings Fulham made – and they made a lot – Andersen had the most impact. The centre-back, who signed on loan from Lyon in October, has impressed with his dominance in the air and solid passing.

Denmark defender Andersen – who was nominated for the Premier League Player of the Month award for February – particularly shone in Fulham’s 1-0 win at Liverpool. Andersen, linked with London clubs Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham and West Ham among others, would be a smart addition for a few clubs if Lyon are looking to cash in on the 24-year-old.

A fee of about £25 million would reportedly be enough to land Andersen from Lyon this summer, though his valuation could rise if he shines at the European Championship. Either way, he is certainly one of the relegated players sure to be in demand.

Ademola Lookman

Fulham face a major rebuilding job for next season with many of their most impressive players having been at Craven Cottage on loan. RB Leipzig attacker Lookman is among them.

Lookman’s terrible Panenka against West Ham last November might be what the 23-year-old is remembered for by many, but otherwise he has performed well for Scott Parker’s side. Versatile enough to play on the wing or up front, Lookman has contributed four goals and four assists in the Premier League including a recent winner against Sheffield United.

The former Everton man may be hoping to get another shot in the Bundesliga next season but Leipzig are said to be ready to sell and he is likely to be on the radar of Premier League clubs.

Leicester City are said to be among the teams interested in signing Lookman. Brendan Rodgers previously targeted the forward when he was Celtic’s manager and the Northern Irishman could try to bring him in to boost the Foxes’ forward options.

Okay Yokuslu

West Brom’s best player during the second half of the season has been Yokuslu by a distance. Sam Allardyce has told the media he does not expect the midfielder to stay at the club and Yokusly will surely be one of the relegated players in demand.

Yokuslu, who joined on loan from La Liga side Celta Vigo, has been an all-action presence at the base of the Baggies midfield, helping to improve their defensive solidity under Allardyce.

The Turkey international, an ideal age at 27, has the street-smarts to be a success story in the Premier League long-term. Yokuslu is said to have settled in quickly to life in the Midlands so a future in the Premier League might well be on the cards for the combative midfielder.

The Baggies could also lose Sam Johnstone, who has made more saves than any other goalkeeper in the Premier League this season. He was called up by England earlier this year.

Matheus Pereira

The jewel in West Brom’s crown is Pereira and they face a battle to keep him for next season. The Brazilian was brilliant in the Championship last time out and would surely dominate again.

Pereira’s haul of 10 Premier League goals is impressive for a poor side and he earned a rare 10 out of 10 in WhoScored’s ratings when he produced a magnificent display in the win at Chelsea.

Having only cost £8 million when he joined the Baggies from Sporting Lisbon, West Brom would be in line for a massive profit if they opted to sell the 25-year-old. As with Yokuslu, Allardyce has admitted it will be a tough task to keep Pereira at the club, noting that “everybody has a price”.

West Brom are said to value Pereira at around the £40 million mark, which could put off suitors in a similar way to when Aston Villa were able to hold on to Jack Grealish a year ago. Coincidentally, Villa are among the Premier League teams said to be interested in Pereira which will surely attract the most attention of the relegated players this summer

John Lundstram

Few players have made a positive impression for Sheffield United this term but Lundstram’s goalscoring exploits in the previous campaign – he hit five goals to make himself a fantasy football legend for a brief period of time – should ensure he stays in the top-flight.

Available on a free transfer having refused to sign a new contract at Bramall Lane, Lundstram could be an affordable yet handy squad option for a budget-conscious team such as Burnley.

The Liverpool-born midfielder has also been targeted by Rangers in the past, but the 27-year-old may prefer to stay in the Premier League if he gets the right offer. Crystal Palace have been linked with Lundstram; the Eagles are set to make a major overhaul over the summer.
