Pontefract Win 5 preview | 22nd April

13.52 Northern Commercials New Iveco 2024 Model Year EBF Restricted Novice Stakes

THEATRICALLY caught the eye with a running-on fifth in the Brockelsby on his debut, and although she could only finish fourth at Kempton last time out, she’s a big player under Silvestre De Sousa for trainer Amy Murphy, who does well at this course. Debutants EIGHTEEN FOURTEEN, INSHAD, and ALMANJOOR are others to note.

Tips: Theatrically, Eighteen Fourteen, Inshad, and Almanjoor

14.22 OAP Free Day Handicap

VANITY PLAYS hasn’t been at her best of late, but she has form under these conditions since she was trained in Ireland. She could capitalise on the ease in grade. CASSANOS LAD ran well under an attacking ride when third on his handicap debut at Wolverhampton and should be thereabouts. The bottom weight BLUFFERONTHEBUS should get a strong pace to aim at and is another to consider.

Tips: Vanity Plays, Cassanos Lad, Blufferonthebus

14.52 OAP Free Day Handicap

ESMERAY has progressed with each start and shaped very nicely when third on her handicap debut at Newbury in September. Being in receipt of weight from all of her rivals, she should be difficult to beat. Last year’s winner, LIGHTENING COMPANY, will love the ground and should make a bold bid, while TOSHIZOU is still winless for this stable, but he is consistent and is another that will handle the conditions.

Tips: Esmeray, Toshizou, and Lightening Company

15.22 OAP Free Day Handicap

ON THE RIVER won four times last year and has winning form on similar ground. He is a pound below his last winning mark and should go close with his latest run under his belt. GOLDEN MELODY ran well when third here last time and is 5Ib below his last winning mark, so he’s dangerous to dismiss. The in-form PERSEVERANTS can also be included.

Tips: On The River, Golden Melody, Perseverants

15.55 Bowel Cancer Screening Programme Save Lives Handicap

John Quinn’s HIGHFIELD VIKING won with a bit to spare at Thirsk last time out, and he has more to offer, so he’s a player under Jason Hart. He has his only ride on the card. Meanwhile, DUMFRIES and LERWICK remain well handicapped and are both eased in grade, so they merit consideration in what is an open-looking contest.

Tips: Highfield Viking, Dumfries, and Lerwick
