BOOM or BUST – Cheltenham Festival 2026: Part 1
In this two-part series, I will be taking a look at a few of the key favourites at the 2026 Cheltenham Festival and discuss whether I think they will win (BOOM) or not (BUST). I hope you enjoy reading part 1, the hurdlers! OLD PARK STAR (Supreme Novices’ Hurdle) Unbeaten in three starts over hurdles and was an extremely impressive winner of the Grade 2 Supreme trial event at Haydock last time out.

12.47 Racing To School Conditional Jockeys’ Veterans’ Handicap Chase TIGER ORCHID is 5lb lower than when winning a stronger race at Worcester in June of 2024 and is dangerous to rule out if he can recapture his best form.

13.32 Next Meeting At leicesterraces Wednesday 28th January Novices’ Hurdle Starzand ran well under a penalty when second last time out but I fear he might bump into another promising type in the shape of UBATUBA.

12.50 Free Race Replays On attheraces.com Open NH Flat Race A small but interesting opener and the marginal vote goes to MY MATE AJ. He’s up against some fascinating newcomers but shaped extremely well when third on debut at Southwell and could put that experience to good use.

12.25 BetMGM Juvenile Hurdle NOVELISTA is a fascinating hurdles debutant given how consistent he has been on the Flat. If he can translate any of that ability to this sphere, then I think he could win this opener.

12.40 Thorn Plant Hire Novices’ Hurdle MONEYGARROW appreciated a positive ride when scoring at Warwick when last seen and could be hard to beat. THEY CALL ME HUGO came within a short-head of Grade 2 victory at Cheltenham last month and is a huge player in this lower graded event.

12.07 Flaked Oats Memorial Novices’ Handicap Chase In the opening race, I’ll take a swing at COTILDA for Paul Nicholls and Harry Cobden. She’s been mostly consistent for connections and has only found one too good on her last couple of starts to suggest she’s in form.

Arsenal, City or Liverpool – which Premier League team would be the best fit for Marc Guehi?
The January transfer window is open and Marc Guehi could be among the highest profile players on the move. Indeed, there is a lot of speculation swirling around the Crystal Palace defender. Guehi is out of contract at Selhurst Park at the end of the 2025/26 season, meaning he could become a free agent in the summer.
