Newton Abbot Place 6 preview | 17th May

14.05 – Racing Welfare Mental Health Awareness Week Handicap Hurdle – 2m2f

Since the turn of the year, INFERNO SACREE has developed into a winning machine, winning four of his last five starts. He turned in a career-best performance at Perth last-time-out and while he has been hit with an 18Ib rise in the weights, he is sure to make another bold effort. POLYPHONIC has taken well to hurdles, who has a win and three placed efforts. He should be thereabouts with Harry Cobden retained to ride.

Selections: INFERNO SACREE, POLYPHONIC

14.35 – Alan (Rabbit) Welch Tribute Novices’ Hurdle – 2m

KING OF THE LAKE only found the classy Brentford Hope too good on his hurdles debut at Wincanton, beaten just a couple of lengths, and the winner wasn’t disgraced when sixth in the Swinton Hurdle last weekend. With more to come, Jeremy Scott’s charge has a great opportunity to go one better. ASTRONOMIC VIEW, who was smart in bumpers, ran a satisfactory race on hurdles debut when third and should give the former most to think about.

Selections: KING OF THE LAKE, ASTRONOMIC VIEW

15.10 – St Austell Brewery Handicap Chase – 3m1f

DOCTOR FOLEY had a lot more in hand than the one-length winning margin indicated when extending his unbeaten record over fences to two wins at Fontwell last time. Anthony Honeyball’s charge has jumped and travelled beautifully in each of his two victories and is only 3Ib higher for this race, so the hat-trick looks firmly on the cards for this fast-improving six-year-old.

Selections: DOCTOR FOLEY

15.45 – NewtonAbbotRace On Twitter Handicap Chase – 2m4f

OUR BILL’S AUNT is a remarkably consistent mare, who has only finished outside the top-three once in all career starts to date. She only found one too good at Chepstow last time and has the size and cope to make an even better chaser. She could go well, as could ACROSS THE LINE, who has become well-treated and a repeat of his latest second should see him competitive. The hat-trick seeking BEGIN THE LUCK also warrants inclusion.

Selections: OUR BILL’S AUNT, ACROSS THE LINE, BEGIN THE LUCK

16.20 – Racing Partnership Novices’ Handicap Hurdle – 2m2f

PHOENIX RISEN has won his last two starts and beat a subsequent winner by nine lengths at Taunton in the first of those wins, so he’s going to be hard to stop in his three-timer bid. His big danger is CLONGOWES, who was a classy animal on the Flat and while he hasn’t matched that form in this sphere, he is well-handicapped.

Selections: PHOENIX RISEN, CLONGOWES

16.55 – Totnes And Bridgetown Chase Company Open Hunters’ Chase – 3m1f

MORATORIUM has leading claims in the sixth race. He remains winless in the UK but has made the frame multiple times, including at Cheltenham twice and the form of his second to Not That Fuisse is strong form. If he can repeat that form, he certainly has the capabilities to win a race of this nature.

Selections: MORATORIUM
