Newmarket Place 6 preview | 20th May

13.30 – British Stallion Studs EBF Fillies’ Novice Stakes – 6f

Plenty of guesswork involved for the opener but LA GUARIDA could be set to run well on debut for Richard Hannon, who does very well with 2yo’s at this course, while MAMMY has an attractive pedigree and isn’t discounted for Michael Bell. Brown Meehan’s RATING cannot be taken lightly either.

Selections: La Guarida, Mammy, Rating

14.05 – Aspall Cyder 1728 Handicap – 1m

CEANNA opened her account at the third time of asking at Southwell and might have been let in lightly on handicap debut here. ACOTANGO made a game effort from the front at Haydock, where he saw off all but one rival who won next-time-out. The form is solid as the third has also won since, so he’s a big player with a repeat showing in this contest.

Selections: Ceanna, Acotango

14.40 – Aspall Suffolk Draught Cyder Handicap – 6f

EXPERT AGENT is on a roll and while he has done all of his winning on the all-weather, this is his chance to counteract his winning sequence on the turf. WASHINGTON HEIGHTS was a good second over C&D when last seen on his return and his form has continued to be boosted. He must hold leading claims from only a pound higher mark with plenty in his favour.

Selections: Expert Agent, Washington Heights

15.15 – Aspall Premier Cru Handicap – 7f

POWERDRESS won impressively at this course on debut and shaped promisingly on her return from an absence when third behind Majestic Pride. She will find this easier than when contesting the 2000 Guineas last time and an opening mark of 88 on handicap debut is surely exploitable. SIGNCASTLE CITY ran well on his return at Haydock and could be competitive with that run under his belt.

Selections: Powerdress, Signcastle City

16.50 – Aspall Blush Cyder Handicap – 7f

MONTASSIB progressed nicely last year and made the frame in both the Bunbury Cup and Buckingham Palace. He returned with an eye-catching fourth at Haydock, where he might have won with a clear passage. Off the same mark here, compensation could well be on the cards. STAR OF ORION was a good second over C&D just over two weeks ago and has a fair chance from this mark.

Selections: Montassib, Star Of Orion

16.25 – Darley Fillies’ Novice Stakes – 1m4f

This should be a straightforward task for SUMO SAM to return to winning ways. He was successful here on debut and ran really well when second in a Listed event a couple of weeks ago. He has a penalty to carry but is a warm favourite and is eased in grade. It would come as a surprise if he didn’t go close.

Selections: Sumo Sam
