Newbury Place 6 preview | 23rd September

It was a great day on Wednesday with the column at Kelso as we went through the card with my Place 6 preview and syndicate, finding six winners from the six races. From just a £3.20 ticket, the bet returned £206.17 after a 50% cash-out before the final race, which ended up winning anyway.

The payout would have been even greater without the cash-out but it was a great profit nevertheless and if you were one of just the 3.5 winning units in addition to myself, as my ticket went to a solo bet due to not filling, then many congratulations. Here is today’s Place 6 preview at Newbury. Best of luck.

You may join today’s syndicate here.

13.30 – Dubai International Airport World Trophy Stakes – 5f

RAASEL only found a younger rival too strong in the closing stages at Doncaster last week and that was still a decent effort in defeat. He is reunited with James Doyle, who has a good record on him, and is a danger to all back at this level. SENSE OF DUTY has an absence to overcome but she was mightily progressive when last seen in which she easily beat subsequent Portland winner Annaf at Newcastle at this level by more than four lengths. She is likely to need the run but should still be extremely competitive.

Tips: RAASEL, SENSE OF DUTY

14.05 – Dubai Duty Free Autumn Cup Handicap – 1m5f

While GET SHIRTY has indefinitely found it tough to get his head in front this year, he can now find himself 8Ib lower than he returned victorious in the Old Newton Cup last year on soft ground. He also won at Royal Ascot last year, so if connections can somehow rekindle his best form, he would most certainly be in the shake-up. SALT BAY finished third in the Criterium International at Saint-Cloud on just his second career start on heavy ground and although he hasn’t matched that form in two starts since, he’s of interest.

Tips: GET SHIRTY, SALT BAY

14.40 – Dubai Duty Free Handicap – 1m2f

TOSHIZOU hasn’t looked at all comfortable over a slightly further trip the last twice, but before then, he was a fair fourth at Epsom off a 4Ib higher mark in a similar-grade contest and the combination of trip/ground could prompt a return to form. The hat-trick seeking TOTNES has been hit with an 8Ib rise for his latest win at Chepstow but he did score very easily and if he handles the testing ground, which is the only question mark against him, he should be thereabouts.

Tips: TOSHIZOU, TOTNES

15.15 – Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes – 6f

MATTERS MOST is a winner of two of her five starts and ran with credit to finish second in a Listed event last time out. This race requires another jolt of improvement but she might well find it and fill the frame with conditions likely to hold no fears. SEVEN QUESTIONS has hardly done anything wrong in his career – with career stats reading 4211132 and was only beaten a head in a Group 3 last time. He has to go on the shortlist as he’s likely to give his running once more.

Tips: MATTERS MOST, SEVEN QUESTIONS

15.50 – Horris Hill School EBF Novice Stakes – 7f

NATIONAL INTEREST holds an entry in a Group 1 and displayed lots of promise when runner-up in a Deauville maiden on his debut last month. He should be hard to beat as he bids to go one place better on his British debut. TRAFALGAR SQUARE, an expensive purchase, shaped with plenty of encouragement when fourth in a C&D event on debut and should also improve here.

Tips: NATIONAL INTEREST, TRAFALGAR SQUARE

16.25 – Conundrum Consulting Handicap – 7f

EMBRACE has not been in the same form since finishing fourth in the Group 3 Fred Darling over C&D but that is the best form on offer and she is heavily eased in grade compared to her last three tasks. PEARLE D’OR has been in good form of late, with a win and a couple of seconds and she should again be in the mix whilst the iron is hot. James Doyle will take the ride.

Tips: EMBRACE, PEARLE D’OR
