Newbury Place 6 preview | 10th February

12.55 – Betfair Racing Podcasts Novices’ Hurdle

MAKING HEADWAY created a good impression when successful on his hurdles debut before finishing runner-up in a Grade 2 race at Haydock. He will take a big drop in class after finishing fourth in a Grade 1 race last time out and should be difficult to beat.

Tips: MAKING HEADWAY

13.30 – Betfair Serial Winners Fund Handicap Hurdle

AMERICAN SNIPER looks well handicapped off a mark of 128 after beating a 129-rated horse at Cheltenham in his penultimate start. He wasn’t suited to the drop-in trip last time out, but the return to Newbury and longer distance are a couple of contributing factors to his strong credentials. EMITOM ran well when second to a subsequent Grade 3 winner at Ludlow and is another to seriously consider.

Tips: AMERICAN SNIPER, EMITOM

14.05 – Betfair Denman Chase (Grade 2)

SHISHKIN was desperately unlucky in the King George last time out, as he was still in front and looking the most likeliest winner before he departed at the second last fence. He remains the highest-rated runner in the field, and therefore this multiple Grade 1 winner should outclass these granted a clear round. He is the banker.

Tips: SHISHKIN

14.40 – Betfair Exchange Game Spirit Chase (Grade 2)

AMARILLO SKY has two wins over C&D, and although he hasn’t been seen since finishing fourth in last year’s Clarence House, he has a good record when fresh. He will handle the conditions better than most and could be hard to peg back if he can get into a rhythm. I’ll cover EDWARDSTONE though, who will be difficult to beat if he can rekindle his best form.

Tips: AMARILLO SKY, EDWARDSTONE

15.15 – Betfair Hurdle (Premier Handicap)

LUCCIA has a difficult task at the weights, but she is extremely consistent, and she beat a few of these at Ascot last time out. Nicky Henderson’s mare will have the services of David Bass, and she is actually open to improvement in the handicap ranks. She won’t mind conditions and has C&D-winning form as well. GO DANTE is a huge price after an impressive win at Cheltenham last time out. He has always been held in high regard by Olly Murphy and should run well.

Tips: LUCCIA, GO DANTE

15.50 – Best Odds On The Betfair Exchange Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase

INCH HOUSE has already won two races over fences here this season, prior to a good second at Cheltenham last time out. He is a major player if able to handle conditions, while HOMETOWN BOY should be fitter from his seasonal/chase debut at Carlisle when third and has an excellent chance. MISTER COFFEY is capable of playing a leading role when at his best.

Tips: INCH HOUSE, HOMETOWN BOY, MISTER COFFEY
