Newbury Betting Preview

13.00 – R & M Electrical EBF Novice Stakes (GBB Race) (Div 1) – 7f

BRESSON lost nothing in defeat when narrowly losing out to a highly promising Godolphin colt at Newmarket last month and given the winner went close in a Group 2 next time, the form has a strong look to it. With more to come from this son of Dubawi, Frankie can get him off the mark at the third attempt having shaped well when third on debut here too.

Selections: BRESSON

13.33 – R & M Electrical EBF Novice Stakes (GBB Race) (Div 2) – 7f

An interesting race with the vote going to debutant LISBOA, who makes plenty of appeal on paper being a son of the classy Galileo and could pose a threat if the betting speaks in his favour. Brian Meehan also does well with his debutantes and therefore DARTMAN has to be considered. This is wide-open, but hopefully one of the two picks can get themselves into the picture.

Selections: LISBOA, DARTMAN

14.08 – bet365 British EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes (GBB Race) – 6f

TRILLIUM shaped with so much promise when second on debut at Goodwood, where she was slowly away from the stalls, raced keenly throughout but she travelled powerfully into the lead at the furlong pole. While the experienced Galeron grabbed her late on, she stuck for the task well in second once asked for maximum efforts (too late as a result) and is sure to have learnt a lot from that appearance. Her trainer is in pretty good form, so there’s a lot to like about her chances for this and I expect her to go one better.

Selections: TRILLIUM

14.43 – UHY Ross Brooke Chartered Accountants Fillies’ Handicap

SEA SYLPH was out of her depth last time in a Group 2 contest but this is a lot easier and she had previously finished runner-up at Doncaster in this grade off this mark. She should get back on track in this race under Rossa Ryan. Andrew Balding’s SPRING GLOW is really consistent and should be able to produce another bold display in her quest for a third win in her last six starts.

Selections: SEA SYLPH, SPRING GLOW

15.18 – Quickmove Handicap – 1m4f

DIVINE JEWEL emphatically opened her account on handicap debut from the front last time on the back of three placed efforts and the combination of a step up in trip and return to the turf can see her defy a six pounds rise with more to come. ZAIN NIGHTS has a good record here with a win and two seconds from three starts and should again go very well with the cheekpieces added and William Buck in the saddle.

Selections: DIVINE JEWEL, ZAIN NIGHTS

15.53 – Irish Thoroughbred Marketing (IRE) Incentive Scheme Rose Bowl Stakes (Listed) – 6f

An excellent feature race, where ROGUE LIGHTNING looks to supplement his impressive debut victory at Newmarket with success in this Listed contest. He was heavily supported that day and comfortably brushed aside a subsequent winner by four lengths. Now stepped up in grade, he could remain unbeaten. I’ll also mention a couple more, BELIEVING, who ran well when fourth in a Listed event last time and should make an impact with Hollie Doyle onboard. Windsor Castle fourth CHATEAU has to be considered too over his longer distance and sets the standard on the form available. .

Selections: ROGUE LIGHTNING, BELIEVING, CHATEAU
