Naas betting tips: Sir Dragonet set to slay rivals

Racing expert Steven Dowler previews Monday’s £5,000 Place 6 at Naas and think that Sir Dragonet could shine in the feature race. If you agree with his Naas betting tips, then join his Syndicate.

14.00 – Maiden – 5f

Not a lot to go on here with all runners making their debut. Even so, LIPIZZANER cost his powerful connections £650,000 as a yearling and is related to some very high-class winners. The horses from the Aidan O’Brien camp normally need their first run but this well regarded sort could easily win this and develop into a group horse.

Whilst, Jim Bolger knows how to ready one on debut and POETIC FLARE is the choice of the stables two runners by jockey Kevin Manning. There is a lot of stamina in this horses pedigree, which gives this Dawn Approach colt a good chance of going close.

Naas Betting Tips: LIPIZZANER, POETIC FLARE

14.30 – Maiden – 6f

Interesting race here with some nice types making their debut. However, I am siding with two who have previous racecourse experience with KNIGHT OF MALTA being one of those. He ran a lovely race over C&D on debut when fourth of 16 runners on similar ground, faring best of the newcomers and with experience, course form and the ground being of no issue this does look a good opportunity for him to get off the mark.

Jessie Harrington solely relies on GRIZZLY who shaped well on his debut when a strong finishing fourth and the application of a tongue-tie and Shane Foley on board, I think he represents decent value to reach the frame.

Naas Betting Tips: KNIGHT OF MALTA, GRIZZLY

15.00 – Handicap – 6f

MOKHALAD has achieved the highest RPR in the field so far and is clearly a useful horse in the early part of the season due to him managing two wins and two seconds at the beginning of last season. He completed the 2019 year with a couple of good runs in defeat, most notably when fourth under a big weight when last seen. Colin Keane is on board and this 7-year-old is expected to be on the premises with his form over C&D reading two wins from two starts.

TITANIUM SKY can also be given a chance having contested stronger races than this to date including a group three. She has run well twice at listed level suggesting she is more than capable of being involved here as she has run well fresh in the past and has the assistance of a top apprentice aboard.

Last year’s runner-up ARCANEARS has a big chance of going one better despite being much higher in the weights this time around. Having demonstrated strong form on the polytrack, there is every reason to believe he will go close again being a much improved performer, with proven form on heavy ground assisting with a good claimer taking off a handy 10l to reduce his mark.

Naas Betting Tips: MOKHALAD, TITANIUM SKY, ARCANEARS

15.30 – Handicap – 7f

Although being more exposed than the majority of this field, IN FROM THE COLD goes well in the mud and was last seen beating an odds-on favourite 84 rated individual. This race does demand more but his form is pretty solid and Chris Hayes is top rider, who will get a good tune out of this consistent horse.

CAMACHITA is effective under these conditions and has improved with every start having rounded off her last campaign with a fine fourth in a group three. This is easier and she goes well fresh having run well on her debut so there is a lot to like about her for this race.

Aidan O’Brien has a good chance of winning this with HONG KONG who a half brother to the top-class Caravaggio. He was a little disappointing when last seen in a group three but his earlier victory from the front is good enough form to win this and he handles this type of ground reasonably well. There is plenty more improvement to come from him and it is really hard to overlook him, which is why he is going on our ticket.

Naas Betting Tips: IN FROM THE COLD, CAMACHITA, HONG KONG

16.00 – Devoy Stakes (Listed) – 1m 2f

The feature race of the day will see SIR DRAGONET make his seasonal reappearance at very short odds and although he did not live up to his reputation since he acquitted himself well when finishing fifth of 13 in last year’s derby when favourite.

He was far from disgraced when beaten just three lengths in the group one st leger on his final start last season when failing to stay. On the other hand, let’s not forget when Sir Dragonet bolted up in the chester vase by eight lengths and is rated 117 here leaving him 13lb clear on official ratings in the race.

He won easily on his debut last year so fitness should not be any issue and it would come as a huge shock if he can’t make a winning return to action for a nice confidence-booster.

Naas Betting Tips: SIR DRAGONET

16.30 – Fillies Stakes (Group 3) – 1m

HAMARIYNA didn’t run as a two-year-old, nonetheless showed progressive form last spring which included a group three success in good style. It was a surprise to see him under-perform in the oaks trial here last time, but that clearly wasn’t his true running and even with a 3lb penalty to carry for this race and top weight 10-2 on his back, it’s very difficult to overlook her with Ronan Whelan on board, who is having his only ride on today’s card.

Blissful looks a danger to all here but is unproven on the ground and the second vote, on that account goes to EVEN SO. Ger Lyon’s runs a couple in the race but Colin Keane has opted to stay aboard this improving, unexposed useful filly, whom created a good impression when last seen over 1 mile on similar ground at Gowran Park, obliterating the field with ease having displayed a good run on debut when third behind Blissful. Therefore, I am taking a chance on this daughter of Camelot to reverse that earlier form and make a winning seasonal debut before going onto better things.

Naas Betting Tips: HAMARIYNA, EVEN SO
