Musselburgh Place 6 betting preview | August 5th

Steven Dowler is taking on today’s Place 6 pool at Musselburgh. Check out his preview below.

13.40 – Champagne Pommery Rose Magnum Handicap – 1m

BANKAWI was a game winner at Ayr last month and matched that form when second at Carlisle a few days ago. If turned out quickly, he’s got to be considered in the opener. IRON SHERIFF has posted a couple of placed efforts the last two times and despite going up a couple of pounds, he’s a danger with Jonny Peate retained to ride, who takes off five-pounds once more.

Selections: BANKAWI, IRON SHERIFF

14.10 – British Stallion Studs EBF Conditions Stakes (GBB Race) – 5f

WEN MOON shaped well when second on debut and went one better at Ripon next time, winning with more in hand than the three-parts-of-a-length margin indicated. With more to offer now upped in grade, Ben Haslam’s charge has to be considered as a threat to all in this line-up. NEW DEFINITION wasn’t disgraced when fourth in a Listed event last time and is also a player.

Selections: WEN MOON, NEW DEFINITION

14.40 – So Stobo Platinum Jubilee Handicap – 1m5f

Iain Jardine’s RAVENSCRAIG CASTLE wasn’t suited to the drop back in distance last time in the Old Newton Cup, but still ran well to finish ninth of 17. He returns to a longer distance today and is dropped in grade and went close on his last visit here from only a two-pounds lower mark. He’s a huge player in this contest and I’m quite hopeful he will get the better of Haizoom on these much more favourable terms.

Selections: RAVENSCRAIG CASTLE

15.10 – Madeleine Cup Handicap – 5f

DAPPER MAN hasn’t been at his best so far this season but he’s beginning to look very well-treated nowadays and is now four pounds below his last winning mark. The eight-year-old has a good chance in this event. GLOBAL HUMOR was a fine second over track and trip a week ago and remains on the same mark here. He should get a good lead into proceedings before possibly pouncing late on under his experienced rider.

Selections: DAPPER MAN, GLOBAL HUMOR

15.40 – Gaynor Winyard Handicap – 7f

MANIGORDO is very hard to catch right but he’s shown more than enough this year to suggest his turn is near when things fall into place. He has already gone close twice off higher marks this term and was quite unlucky at this venue on his penultimate start which has worked out quite well. This could be his day, while HIGHER KINGDOM has become dangerously well treated and was fourth here last year off a six pounds higher mark. He should be competitive.

Selections: MANIGORDO, HIGHER KINGDOM

16.10 – McEwan Fraser Handicap – 7f

DOOMSDAY is in good form of late and went close to winning again at Leicester last month when third. That form looks quite strong, so a repeat effort should see him in the mix. JESSIE ALLAN isn’t getting any younger but he’s two pounds below his course-and-distance win here last September and is respected in such a weak contest.

Selections: DOOMSDAY, JESSIE ALLAN
