Glorious Goodwood day 5 tips: Enbihaar set to go back-to-back

Glorious Goodwood day 5 tips
13.50 – Steward’s Sprint Handicap – 6f
This looks a tough handicap to solve but the Marco Botti-trained three-year-old BATCHELOR BOY looks to have been located an ideal opportunity. He’s been unfortunate on his last couple of starts and remains on a good mark here from a nice high-draw in stall 16 with Ryan Moore on board. The stable won this race back in 2015 and this is their first runner in the race since that success. This unexposed youngster actually ticks a lot of the main trends, therefore, I can envisage him going close at a fairly nice price.
TOMMY G won this back in 2018 off a 9lb higher mark and was third in it last year off a 6lb higher mark. He bounced back to form with a creditable second last time and looks to have been primed for this race again. With a record of 1-2-3 in this contest and running off bottom-weight with Silvestre De Sousa booked to ride, it would be foolish to ignore him.
The other two Jim Goldie runners PRIMO’S COMET and CALL ME GINGER also enter calculations having already demonstrated a fair level of form in these types of races previously, especially the former who was fourth in this race last year off a 3lb higher mark. I strongly suspect one of them will reach the frame at the very least with good jockeys booked for each mount.

14.25 – Summer Handicap – 1m6f
Top-weight KING’S ADVICE won this last year from a 4lb higher mark and although nowhere near that level of form since, his best form has come on a quick surface, for which he will get here, and his form at this level on this exact ground is head and shoulders above anything else in the race has achieved with a record of four wins from five starts on good to firm going (80%). I am inclined to believe he will bounce back to form back on ground he will relish, and also back at the undulations of Goodwood that he often performs to his best at representing the Mark Johnston and Joe Fanning team again. He will make a bold bid that’s for sure.
Meanwhile, stablemate HOCHFIELD is very well-handicapped these days and will enjoy the ground as well. He’s a proven, honest tough stayer who won’t be fazed by the small but select field. There is an element of risk attached to him having not won for nearly three years, but he ran with credit when last seen and if Harry Bentley can get a tune out of him, he’s not without hope of returning to winning ways now back on his last winning mark which was evidently under these conditions.
PLATITUDE has plenty of good course form being a two-time C&D winner. He finished last in this race last year, but that was on his seasonal debut and he’s had a recent-spin beforehand this time which will have taken the freshness out of him. He went close to winning on his last start at this track over 2-miles when conceding plenty of weight to Themaxwecan and is better off at the weights today. He’s also 6lb lower than that run in defeat, therefore, the handicapper has given him a great chance of reaching the frame at least.

15.00 – Lillie Langtry Stakes – 1m6f
John Gosden has a good record in this race and last year’s winner ENBIHAAR has an excellent chance of going back-to-back wins in the race for the yard. She bounces on quick ground and gave weight and a beating to Manuela De Vega last year. One year on, she’s even better off at the weights and acquitted herself well when fourth in a Group-2 against the boys when last seen. I think it would be very disappointing for connections if she can’t confirm her superiority over today’s field.
Last year’s runner-up MANUELA DE VEGA is clearly worse off at the weights with Enbihaar on their rematch here, but she’s a much-improved filly since, having won her last two races at Group-2 and Group-3 level in commanding fashion. The Ralph Beckett team are absolutely flying at the moment and despite her facing a tough task to reverse last years form, she’s entitled to be thereabouts again at the finish and I wouldn’t discount her taking top honours now she’s matured and a much stronger filly in 2020 having taking into the mere fact that she comes into this year’s race at the top of her game which wasn’t the case last year. Furthermore, she’s achieved the highest figures out of the whole field in 2020 which gives out clear indication that Enbihaar will need to be at her very best to beat her.

15.35 – Stewards’ Cup – 6f
This is wide-open and a lot will depend on which side of the track the pace will come from truth be told. ANGEL ALEXANDER had a good season in 2019 including victory in the Ayr Gold Cup off a mark of 101. He competed in Dubai and France after that, performing admirably well each time which resulted with a second place finish in a Group-3. You can put a line through his Royal Ascot blip last time on his seasonal debut where he clearly needed the run and he’s dropped a handy 2lb which leaves him just a couple of pounds above his last winning mark which was in the Ayr Gold Cup last season. His fitness will be assured today and being the yard’s only runner on today’s card, he makes plenty of appeal from a good slot in stall 27 given high-drawn numbers do well in this race.
NAHAAR looks like a sprinter going places and has also been handed a high draw which is decent. He’s improving with each start and a 6lb rise for his latest success might not be enough to prevent another bold showing representing the combination of William Haggas and Tom Marquand who are building up a fine partnership as we speak.
MR LUPTON has often been highly tried in his career with his last three wins coming at either Listed or Group level. The handicapper has started to give him some relief of late and his two runs this year would have invariably been needed. Even so, he performed to a good standard both times, finishing fourth behind Oxted who franked the form in Group-1 company. Richard Fahey’s 7-year old then performed well from a poor draw in the Wokingham Stakes at Royal Ascot to not be beaten all that far last time when 12th of 22 runners.
He will find the 3lb drop in the handicap a welcome addition here from a better slot in stall 14, and I find it even more fascinating that connections have decided to have a crack at this race given Mr Lupton finished fourth behind Battaash in the Group-2 King George Stakes at this meeting twelve months ago. The ground will suit, he’s won and been placed off higher marks in the past at this level and for me, he’s one of the best each-way bets on the card.
KIMIFIVE and WEDDING DATE are also balancing on a good-mark and are both capable of putting in bold efforts providing the gaps appear when needed. Wedding Date has good form off this sort of mark and should go well for her in-form used Richard Hannon while Kimifive remains on the same mark as when sixth at Newmarket last time out. He was denied a clear run in this race last year when going strongly so providing he can endure a clean passage, he shouldn’t be far away under Cieren Fallon.

16.10 – Handicap – 7f
Simon Crisford boasts an impressive 57% place strike-rate at Goodwood and his sole runner on the card is three-year-old CORVAIR who finished second on his first couple of races before winning three consecutive contests, all of which have come on the AW surface. He was unable to get competitive on his turf debut on his latest run, but there were valid excuses having been slowly away to begin with. To his ultimate credit, he stayed on well to take fourth place and has been left alone on a mark of 94 with a gelding operation likely to have helped matters. To add another positive – Silvestre De Sousa is back on board who has winning form on the son of Toronado and the 12/1 (general) is more than generous so he should be backed here with confidence.
I will also be playing a win bet on the Sir Michael Stoute-trained SOCIETY LION who has improved with each outing and lost nothing in defeat when narrowly denied by Tiger Crusade at Doncaster last time out when attempting to give 5lb to the winner. That form is working out extremely well so there is every reason to suggest he will take some beating with room for improvement under Ryan Moore.

16.40 – Maiden Stakes – 7f
After Liberty Beach could only finish fourth behind Battaash yesterday, John Quinn will be hoping for more luck with TITAN ROCK who is taken to get off the mark at the second time of asking. He’s nicely-bred and there was a lot to like about his debut run when keeping-on to finish fourth at Haydock. Indeed, he would have learnt a lot from that first run and he’s expected to take another leap-forward and shake this race up under Danny Tudhope at double-figure prices.
TITIAN also made an eye-catching debut when fourth at Newmarket keeping on well under hands-and-heels and will have learnt a lot from that debut effort. The William Haggas-trained youngster is expected to come on a lot for that run and be competitive in today’s race on better ground. Their selections round off my Glorious Goodwood day 5 tips.
