Epsom Downs Place 6 preview | 1st June
13.25 Hong Kong Jockey Club Lester Piggott Handicap
PERSICA was twice a winner at two and was last seen running well to finish fourth in the London Gold Cup off this exact mark when tackling this trip for the first time. With a repeat showing and knowing he is open to further improvement, he should be in contention.
Tips: Persica
14.00 Princess Elizabeth Stakes
BREEGE has continued to post some excellent efforts in defeat since winning on her debut and should be spot on for fitness after going close on her return at Goodwood four weeks ago. With conditions to suit, Jason Hart’s mount makes plenty of appeal.
Tips: Breege
14.35 Betfred Diomed Stakes
SEAN has run very well in a pair of Group races in Meydan earlier this year and is a very interesting runner on his UK debut. Jamie Osborne’s charge could make an impact. SILVER SWORD will need a personal best to succeed, but he’s progressive and could surprise a few here.
Tips: Sean, Silver Sword
15.10 Betfred 3YO ‘Dash’ Handicap
MASHADI has finished runner-up in seven of his nine starts and was only a neck away from success at Ascot last time when finishing second. If he can keep his mind on the job, then he must have every chance of making amends, or at the very least, fill the frame.
Tips: Mashadi
15.45 Aston Martin ‘Dash’ Handicap
SILKY WILKIE was desperately unlucky when marginally denied in this race twelve months ago from an eight-pound higher mark. He has undoubtedly been trained for the race again, so with plenty in his favour and his stable in superb form, he should be competitive.
Tips: Silky Wilkie
16.30 Betfred Derby
CITY OF TROY ran below form when down the field in the 2000 Guineas, but his handler has continued to be bullish about his chances, and I put my trust in the master himself to get this top-class horse back to his best and gain compensation here. His stablemate LOS ANGELES, who is unbeaten in four starts, can be recognised as the main danger.
Tips: City Of Troy, Los Angeles
