Dave Tindall Previews the Saturday Night Pick 4

Las Palmas v Valencia

Strong home form kept Las Palmas away from any relegation worries last season but their results at Estadio Gran Canaria have nosedived this term and they’ve subsequently hit rock bottom.

They go into the weekend propping up the table with just 11 points from 19 games and no team has taken fewer points in front of their own fans.

Opponents Valencia have won four on the trot in all comps and are flying high in third spot, eight points above Real Madrid!

The visitors don’t keep many clean sheets though so it may be worth giving the hosts a single goal although certainly no more than that. We also have some recent head-to-head form with the pair drawing 1-1 in the Copa Del Rey in Las Palmas before Valencia won the return 4-0.

Prediction: 1-1, 0-1, 0-2, 1-2

Atalanta v Napoli

Napoli top the table (by a point) from Juventus due to their outstanding away form. So far they’ve taken a possible 28 points from 30 on the road, scoring 22 times and conceding just seven.

Revenge is in the air in this one as Atalanta went to Naples at the start of January and dumped the leaders out of the Coppa Italia.

Napoli left out Dries Mertens and Lorenzo Insigne from that 2-1 defeat so they’ll pack much more of a punch this time.

Atalanta should be given plenty of respect though after winning eight out of 11 since late November so they probably wish the Winter Break had never happened. Will they be as potent after 15 days off?

Prediction: Other Draw, 1-2, 2-3

Dave Tindall Pick 4

Ajax v Feyenoord

It’s one of the classic battles of Dutch football but recent head-to-head form is massively in favour of the hosts. Ajax have lost just one of the last 13 encounters with Feyenood and their latest encounter resulted in a 4-1 away win for the men from Amsterdam even though the hosts had gone in front.

Ahead of this one, Ajax are second (five points behind PSV) while Feyenoord are nine points back in fifth.

It’s worth noting, however, that Feyenoord have lost just once on their travels in the Dutch Eredivisie this season and conceded a miserly six goals in eight away matches. They won their last away match 7-0!

Ajax, meanwhile, have scored 14 goals in their last four home games so something has to give. I’ll lean towards history I think.

Prediction: 1-0, 2-1, 3-1

Southampton v Tottenham

Harry Kane probably holds the key here. He’s banged in five goals in his last four games against Southampton and that includes a hat-trick in the reverse fixture at Wembley.

Kane has bagged two or more in the same game on 12 occasions this season so I’ll pencil in Spurs for two goals at least here.

Tottenham have won eight of their last 10 matches in all comps while Southampton have just one win in 11. Leicester won 4-1 at St. Mary’s in December while Palace emerged as 2-1 winners at the start of January so those two games could be decent pointers.

Prediction: 1-2, 1-3, Other Away Win
