FINAL APPEAL went close on debut before easily going one better at Wolverhampton. He should have more to come for a stable that consistently does well, so he’s a player. HICKORY LAD has an identical profile with a second and a win from two outings and must be considered a contender.

14.05 Join Ladbrokes Bet 5 Get 30 Earl Grosvenor Handicap
PERCY’S LAD has a fantastic record at this venue and has become so well treated. He’s 5lb lower than when last successful over track and trip and is drawn well in stall six. Given he has lots of winning and placed form off higher marks, I think he has outstanding claims. DIVINE LIBRA is lower in the handicap than when a running-on fifth in this race twelve months ago and will be fitter from his comeback run at Newmarket last month. He’s got to be considered as a major player.

I’M THE ONE looked a potential top-class prospect when easily winning on debut at Newbury and was already made Oaks favourite on the back of that success. This will really test her metal, so hopefully she can remain unbeaten and strengthen her position for Epsom’s main event.

15.05 Boodles Chester Vase Stakes (Group 3)
WATER TO WINE was really impressive on debut at Newbury, where he always travelled well before asserting late on under hands-and-heels riding. This is a step up in grade but he could be up to the task in hand. BENVENUTO CELLINI is the one to beat stepping up in distance. His trainer and jockey have a fantastic record in this race, so he must be included.

15.40 American Holidays Handicap
ALAMINOS looked very unlucky not to score at Pontefract last time out and must have every chance of going one better with that run under his belt. TRICKY TEL is unbeaten in two course starts and looks very well handicapped off a mark of 79. STAR MATERIAL is an interesting outsider given some bits of his form and could outrun his odds.

16.10 TMT Group Maiden Stakes
ARABIAN DESERT suffered a shock defeat at Pontefract last time out but he’ll be better for that return to action and a repeat of last season’s second in a Group 3 event ought to be enough to see him off the mark. TORNADO TOWER only found one too good on debut and is another to consider with more to come.
