Chester Place 6 preview | 16th September

14.05 – Tote Stand Cup Stakes (Listed) – 1m4f

A golden opportunity for the classy BLUESTOCKING to gain a first win of the year after a sequence of placed efforts in Group 1 events. She came within a whisker of winning the Irish Oaks and her three in-the-frame efforts behind Warm Heart are strong pieces of form. I am struggling to see her beaten now that she is eased in grade.

Tips: BLUESTOCKING, L’ASTRONOME

14.40 – Camden Hells Handicap – 1m2f

BARYSHNIKOV has made the frame four times this year off higher marks and while he’s been winless since May last year, his last win did come over C&D off a 4Ib higher mark. His slow starts have proved costly on occasions but he goes well here and could go close if they go at a good pace. DARK PINE is another with solid course form and went close over C&D in May off a 4Ib higher mark as well. He is another to consider.

Tips: BARYSHNIKOV, DARK PINE

15.15 – British EBF Ruby Anniversary Restricted Novice Stakes – 6f

THANKS FOREVER showed a fair amount of ability when third on debut at York and that form should work out well as the runner-up Zain Blue is a horse in my notebook. With more to come, he could be about to open his account. WINGED MESSENGER displayed plenty of dash when second at Beverley last month and although the step up in trip isn’t sure to suit, his form puts him amongst the main players in this contest.

Tips: THANKS FOREVER, WINGED MESSENGER

15.52 – Storrar Cowdry Solicitors Nursery – 5f

DUE FOR LUCK kept his unbeaten record intact when scoring at Ripon last time, where he travelled nicely and dug deep to defy his penalty. This is a tougher race but he is drawn well down the inside in stall 1 and should make a bold bid. BARNWELL BOY has failed to build on his promising winning debut at Goodwood in a trio of starts but this is an easier race and Franny Norton is booked to ride who is a master around here. His mount could get back on track.

Tips: DUE FOR LUCK, BARNWELL BOY

16.25 – Camden Town Brewery Handicap – 1m6f

One of the most competitive races on the card but ORDER OF MALTA could come into his own over this distance given how well he has been finishing his races over shorter distances, including at Newbury last time out. He is of interest from his good slot in stall 4, while NOBODY TOLD ME doesn’t look badly treated off this mark and beat a subsequent winner back in April. Kevin Stott will ride and this three year old could be thereabouts over this shorter trip. He might be able to make a bigger impact than last time.

Tips: ORDER OF MALTA, NOBODY TOLD ME

17.00 – National Racehorse Week Handicap – 6f

ROMAN DRAGON has four C&D wins to his name with the latest of those coming in July and even though his mark has continued to rise since that win, he has gone close back here the last twice over five furlongs, finishing second in each of those events, including when only denied by a short head last time. He’s the one to beat under Hayley Turner. DIVINE LIBRA won over C&D in July and has remained in good form since with two placed efforts. He is shortlisted.

Tips: ROMAN DRAGON, DIVINE LIBRA
