Cheltenham Place 6 preview | 14th March

13.30 – Sky Bet Supreme Novices’ Hurdle

INTHEPOCKET was pencilled in for a possible tilt at the Ballymore but the soft ground has changed connections’ minds and he has place possibilities at least with a strong pace sure to increase his chances. STRONG LEADER is unbeaten over hurdles and could outrun his large odds, while TAHMURAS is already a Grade 1 winner and his stamina should come into effect. MARINE NATIONALE is unbeaten in four and makes most appeal of the shorter odds runners.

Selections: INTHEPOCKET, STRONG LEADER, TAHMURAS, MARINE NATIONALE

14.10 – Sporting Life Arkle Challenge Trophy Novices’ Chase

EL FABIOLO was a close second to Jonbon over hurdles at Aintree and it’s fair to say both have taken well to fences. Both are Grade 1 winners in this sphere but the former has the stronger form of the two over fences, as he showed lots of class and ability to overcome mistakes and still win in good fashion last time. The performance was backed up by the clock and he is strongly fancied to gain revenge on Nicky Henderson’s charge.

Selections: EL FABIOLO

14.50 – Ultima Handicap Chase

THE BIG BREAKAWAY was second in the Welsh Grand National when last spotted and the drop in trip on soft ground should suit. He is a thorough stayer with a touch of class and given he’s already been to the Festival before and acquired himself well, he is a big price for a horse capable of winning this. NASSALAM ran well here last time and should be suited to the longer trip, so he’s an alternative option.

Selections: THE BIG BREAKAWAY, NASSALAM

15.30 – Unibet Champion Hurdle Challenge Trophy

I am banking on STATE MAN to finish in the first two in the Champion Hurdle. He is unbeaten in four Grade 1 events and is improving with each start. He was really impressive in winning the Irish Champion Hurdle when last spotted and if he were to win and Constitution Hill was out of the frame, we would eliminate a lot of units.

Selections: STATE MAN

16.10 – Close Brothers Mares’ Hurdle

The ground will be perfect for LOVE ENVOI, who bids to make it three wins on the spin this season and potentially gain a second Cheltenham Festival success. She has to face two of the best mares in recent seasons but has a chance to prove her capabilities against them, while dual Champion Hurdle winner and former winner of this race HONEYSUCKLE bids for a fairytale success and she has a great chance.

Selections: LOVE ENVOI, HONEYSUCKLE

16.50 – Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle

Ben Pauling is having a great season and it could get a whole lot better with BAD in the Boodles, who has been trained for this race and makes his handicap debut off a nice mark. With Rachael Blackmore booked to ride, this promising youngster could have a big part to play in the finish. JAZZY MATTY has some decent form in the locker and cannot be ruled out. He should be closer to Byker and Sir Allen in the betting. BYKER is also included.

Selections: BAD, JAZZY MATTY, BYKER
