Cheltenham 2021 tips – One to watch each day

Cheltenham is here and what better way to enjoy the week’s festivities than to have a go on the daily Colossus Place 6, which consistently offers bigger returns than the Tote Placepot. We’ve already given you some Cheltenham outsiders to keep an eye on and to help you  tackle the Cheltenham place pools, here are four horses that you should consider including in your bets. Without further ado, here are our Cheltenham 2021 tips.

Cheltenham 2021 tips

Tuesday – Hell Red (The Boodles Handicap Chase)

The Boodles is always a race that throws up a shock or two. Juveniles often surprise but, when running against handicap marks, some can find no end of improvement. One horse who I think can do this is Paul Nicholls’ Hell Red who is the first selection in my Cheltenham 2021 tips.

On his first start in France he finished behind Monmiral who is potentially the best UK juvenile this season before bolting up at Chepstow and then pulling up here in the grade 2 in November. He then had a wind op and was sent off at 4/11 in an average looking novice hurdle where he was beaten 7 1/2 lengths despite being in receipt of weight. After that, Hell Red was dropped 3lbs and will be running off 131. I feel he’ll be well primed for this and this could of been the plan since given the wind op.

Wednesday – Birchdale (Coral Cup)

A Henderson and JP McManus runner who is a double figure price and has proven back class. A strange prep of two chases and one run in a jumpers bumper, Birchdale may not tick all boxes but his mark has been protected.

He was 8th in this race last year off 146 and now goes off 144, despite not really trying to land a prize anywhere. He has proven course form from 2019 when beating Buster Valentine 18 lengths in a race where Brewinupastorm came down at the last when neck and neck with Birchdale.

Further behind were Jarveys Plate and The Wolf.  He should be primed to come here and I think he’s the best of the British and at the prices I can’t ignore him to place.

Thursday – Shantou Flyer (Kim Muir)

Already a two time runner up at the Cheltenham festival, Shantou Flyer holds a great chance of going one better at the 2021 Cheltenham Festival and is included in our tips as a result.

The now 11 year-old is running as well as ever and has found himself back on a mark of 140. He was 2nd in the Ultima off 152 in 2018 and 2nd int he foxhunters in 2019. This veteran will have been targeted for the big day once again. His course form since January 2017 reads 1-4-2-2-2-2-3. I’ll be cheering Shantou Flyer to repeat previous form and to grab himself a place.

Friday – Native River (Gold Cup)

With the forecast drying out, the conditions may not be perfect for Native River here. Hopefully come the Friday the churned up ground can help his front running style and he can burn off some of his rivals with his proven stamina.

He’s a Welsh National and Gold Cup winner and returned this season with another grade 2 win in the rescheduled Cotswold Chase. He’s currently a huge price based on previous form but the 11 year old will have to be at his best to win. He’s got stamina, class and jumps from the front like a stag so I’m hoping he can dominate and at least grab a place. to round off our Cheltenham 2021 tips.

Good luck and don’t forget to check out our horse racing tips throughout the week.
